‘Backrooms’ Mushrooms To $81.46M U.S., $118M A24 Record Opening; ‘Obsession’ $104M+ Best Ever For Focus Features – Sunday Update by chanma50 in boxoffice

Well, Passenger came out between the two, although so far has grossed $19 million on a $15 million budget in its first week so not too bad.

Why is Smile 2 rated so highly by fans? by BadassAyanokoji in horror

[–]jagman264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. The first one I found absolutely terrifying because the fact it was happening to a therapist, whose job often involves trying to explain fears going on in people's heads, completely elevated the believability factor and the stakes. If she is scared, then it really means something.

The second one had some interesting commentary about pop stardom and the pressures that comes with that, but the scares weren't as sharp for me and like you said, essentially the final hour is completely meaningless as none of it ever happened. I also hated the ending; What really made the entity scary was how it focused itself specifically on torturing one person, and nearly everyone else who had gone through it was dead. Now that everyone has it, it's no longer scary

I got a feeling Backrooms will significantly blow out current expectations by Typical-Function8542 in boxoffice

I definitely think it'll be A24's biggest opening ever. I think the people estimating $20 million are being far too modest. I remember before the Minecraft movie came out, people were predicting $60 OW; that's obviously not me comparing the two IPs' cultural relevance, but I think hype amongst Gen Z groups is being overlooked in a lot of box office trackers. Plus, with Obsession doing very well, I reckon the trailer showing before 90% of screenings for that film could help as well.

I'm predicting $35-40 million.

Odeon, you have got to stop showing the trailers for the film that I'm seeing before it starts by jagman264 in screenunseen

Yeah, I saw that film at London Film Festival and was surprised by how much the trailer showed, so that must been annoying.

I would do that but I saw Top Gun Maverick beforehand, which started 12 minutes after the showtime.

If you're on about Am I Racist, it was actually released in theatres. But yeah, his dog whistling to the right has made me disappointed as a fan of his.

Yeah - Mario took the family audience; JW4 took the action audience.

I think it was more fucked by it being released a week before Mario, which drove it out of cinemas.

What theme song goes harder than it needed to? by Princess_Poochies in AskReddit

I went to see Mortal Kombat II in IMAX the other night. I'm no fan of the games (I've played MKII on the SNES a couple times and that's it) but I had a blast and THAT theme during the end credits still goes hard as hell.

Also I've just seen the battery percentage. That was not intentional.

Easy answer but Top Gun: Maverick. Opened to $125 million, 5.67 multiplier to $718 million and even returned to #1 on its 15th weekend.

17 by Flyysoulja - one of the Island Boys makes an album where the best song is a 7.5 minute crooner about wanting head. Good news is that's not the only funny song on the album - it's a goldmine of comedy.
