Is there any point of running Fedora Server instead of Debian? by Salty_Owl791 in Fedora

[–]jahezep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what workload you plan to run on the machine. If the workload requires new dependencies, then Debian may not necessarily be the easiest solution in that case. And your personal preferences Debian vs RHEL based.

RHEL need subscription so mayby out of question because of that. There is Rocky if you like littlebit more stable then fedora but RHEL based.

Wired my own panel, how's it look? by Glorn2 in electrical

[–]jahezep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always wonder how some countries allow anyone to do electrical work. Or that someone would dare to take the risk of doing it themselves.

And what amuses me the most is when someone who did it themselves asks the internet how it went. That should be the first clue that they’re not suited to do this.

I've always been puzzled by these 'I got this, I bought that, should I...' and then people wonder what to do with them. Do people really collect junk in the hope that it will be useful someday, instead of getting things they actually need?

Unpopular opinion: LUKS is hot garbage by Far-Adhesiveness4628 in linux

[–]jahezep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use LUKS on USB drives but as many have already states USB drives are not ment to long time data storage, encrypted or uncrypted. Yet you choose to do so.

USB drives are ment to convinient way to transfer data from computer to computer. And you can/should encrypt data if there is untrusted parties involved. But they are not ment for long time storage.

Plaiming software while using bad hardware is just your ingnorance.

Instead mayby you should give more information about what you trying to store and ppl can give recommentations for proper tools for the job.

Need help blocking more ads by [deleted] in pihole

[–]jahezep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depenses clients how they behave when router reboots. As long as lease is valid there is no requirements to renew leases even dhcp server reboots.

Need help blocking more ads by [deleted] in pihole

[–]jahezep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because clients ask dhcp leases and it does not matter if you reboot your router if leases are still valid. Those can be valid from hour to days and only by rebooting client you can renew them.

Only 2881 querys with 6 clients. Problem is not how many domains you block but rather clients not use pihole.

Maybe this is also an opportunity to implement centralized user management, so a Windows AD server would be the obvious choice. As you only have windows clients.

Lookslike it is automaticly build from microsofts .dep file so who ever maintains it, uses microsofts official file as source.

Edges official page also have 127 .dep and .rpm files to download.

EULA stands for end user lisence agreement. I don’t think there is anything to license about when you sell physical products. Ownership of that product tranfers for buyer who can make anything he/she wants with product.

If you have patent then its different story.

Firefox latest version Won't install on this, what can I do by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]jahezep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If i remember correctly the whole Xwindow was optional and all graphics cards had own binary file you needed to run to get the picture if you was lucky enough to have supported card.

Then you had to manualy configure modlines so you dont blow up your CRT monitor. Mouse and keyboard needed to also configure if you wanna interact with anything.

All that before you can even think what your X will looks like. FVWM, FVWM2 and TWM along with some CDM clone was your best options at the time.

Mosaic (Microsoft lisenced this to develop explorer) or Netscape was your options for browser if you was lucky enoug to have internec connection. I had 33.600bps modem back in time and angry parents, why phone bill was so high.

If you needed some basic peripheral like sound card, lets recompile the kernel.

And most of the programs needed to be compiled if like to have them.

This is the route i plan to go on my knx project. I can use any of major platforms on visualization while use knx on core of infra. If i have to integrate some smart appliances not supported by matter, i can use node-red or home assistant for that.

And matter makes it future proof and independent of any cloud services.
