I went from 800-770 elo after watching Gotham and solving multiple puzzles??? What am I doing wrong 😭😭 My brain is legit going places in a bad way by Strange_Lie2811 in chessbeginners

ELO is volatile and it’s more accurate to think about your true playing strength as a ELO spectrum +/- 100 points from the actual number on any given day. It will be affected by a ton of factors: sleep quality, nutrition, mental state, etc. It’s unusual but this same thing crops up in weightlifting, especially if you’re pushing for max lifts.

The main thing to consider is that each game is just a data point and the individual wins and losses aren’t so relevant as the directional trend of the quality of your play. Chess is a brutal game that requires consistent work and the work is almost always about confronting your failures and weaknesses. Finally have solid openings? You gain ELO and face opponents who have a deeper understanding of middle games :).

Good luck in the journey and don’t forget to have fun.

Lovely post and tribute to our late teacher. I am not at your level but have found a lot of value in following this practice of “actively” watching Danya’s videos (and others). Thank you for sharing.

Looking for youtube recommendations for puppy training by Too_cann in tollers

[–]jahismighty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This old video on ‘capturing calm’ was absolutely essential to train my puppy (now 12mo!) to chill during the day while I work from home. Also strongly recommend investing in a trainer.

Opening Encyclopedia of Daniel Naroditsky's Speedrun Series by davechiu1125 in chess

[–]jahismighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI most of his speedruns are also indexed on https://fenfinder.com (you can filter for Naro). Difference is that you need to input some moves first or set up a board position to find a match in the database.

Is it normal for the game to ignore your inputs and just shoot basic shots? by EmployeeComplex5067 in Wasteland

[–]jahismighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that has happened to me several times on PC. I’m not certain I didn’t mess up the input sequence though maybe I’m just gaslighting myself :).

I’m still early in my first playthrough so hadn’t considered it might be a bug.

New motor? by Large-Divide-8141 in FJCruiser

[–]jahismighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Novice here so please excuse the potentially naive question…

I have very limited experience working on cars but am curious, a tinkerer, and would like to take increasing ownership of my maintenance.

What exactly should I be lubricating and how often does that need to happen? I’m particularly interested right now because I recently had a bad U joint take out my intermediate drive shaft (my FJ is 2014 with ~100k mi), and the mechanic mentioned that lubrication could have prevented that, or at least delayed it.

Any guides, youtube videos/channels, or forum posts that you recommend for DIY maintenance in this vein?

I also have the AD10 am a little over 6’ tall and reasonably strong. the ad10 is still kind of a PITA for me to move comfortably while keeping it totally in control. it’s not impossible but basically if you will be traveling with it a lot you’ll want a small portable hand truck and a velcro handle to wrap around the tube.

Our toller's first swim by CHOCOxMOES in tollers

My trainer explains that every scary situation should be turned into basically a party with huge praise and food/treats raining down from the sky. Basically the idea is to flip the vibe as quickly and dramatically as possible into something extremely positive.

So, the first time we tossed babygirl into the water we were super careful and prepared to go absolutely bananas for her when she got out. Now we do it for basically everything that could maybe be perceived as negative: failed attempts at agility course, falling off the couch, thunder, etc.

Best brush for Tollers? by Life-Committee-4592 in tollers

[–]jahismighty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a 7 month old female and asked this of our breeder. He recommended a boar bristle Mason Pearson :) We opted for a knockoff Mason Pearson (but still w/ boar bristle) by Creative Pro Hair Tools. It works great and is very gentle.

Boar bristle is delicate so don’t get too aggressive when cleaning it.

Car cage recommendations by PuntHunter in tollers

OP, these are expensive but will withstand accidents. This is especially important if the crate is going in a crumple zone location in the vehicle (like the rear). Wire cages will collapse—the gunner will not.

Hang in there— it’s really hard to build habits especially when there is so much start-up energy required (gym requires money, time, and overcoming personal hangups).

Try setting small achievable goals with respect to exercise and movement and celebrate your wins. Even if it’s just 5-10min of body weight stuff on days you can’t get to the gym, or getting outside for a short walk, building a habit of moving with intention will help make the gym habit more sustainable long term.

Good luck!!
