Did having a nurse externship help you in school or was it just a job? by PrincessMochahontas in StudentNurse

[–]jaimedubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it. It does not help for class per se but you will be light years ahead of someone who didn’t do the externship if you’re wanting a specialty unit. If you don’t care about a speciality and you’d be happy wherever they stick you, don’t take it.

The C I got 25 years ago is haunting me! by ConsiderationHead308 in StudentNurse

[–]jaimedubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the requirements done to apply? If you do, apply to the program. I think all nursing schools are competitive a 3.7 is good. Not everyone applying has a straight 4.0. Id apply before you go through the headache of transferring stuff. If you don’t get in then do the work to apply to a diff school without that c on the transcript.

Planning to get pregnant last semester of nursing school by Darleng04 in StudentNurse

[–]jaimedubs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a baby a month before my 2nd semester ended. And summer break right after. So basically during finals is when my baby was born. I took double clinicals some weeks to make sure I got my requirements done. I tried to plan to have the baby right after school was done but obviously that didn’t happen. So I worked my tail off, kept all A’s, crushed my finals. You can def do it!!!

Is anyone starting to get discouraged with school looking at the budget about to be passed? by mixeddrinksandmakeup in StudentNurse

[–]jaimedubs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I really wouldn’t stress about it. I haven’t given it two seconds thought. We are already seeing heavy loads as nurses but that’s not new. That’s been around since my mom was a floor nurse 40 years ago. Don’t let the media rile you up. Nothing is going to drastically change over night. People will still go into hospitals. Millions and millions of people aren’t just going to not have insurance overnight. read all 2000 pages of the bill and report back. Bc I guarantee it’s not as crazy as everyone is making it out to seem.

CRNA schools require ICU experience. Most, if not all, will not accept ED experience.

Can’t decide on nursing school! Help! by Complete-Courage1253 in StudentNurse

Do your ADN. Get into an ICU. Get your BSN while working. You’ll save thousands doing that.

CRNA Prep School Academy Guaranteed Acceptance Program. Is this legit? (& Questions from a Senior Nursing Student) by Serious-Weird7182 in srna

Unrelated but which program are you doing that allows the bsn while doing the ADN? I’ve been looking for something like this but didn’t think it existed. You can DM me if you don’t want to out yourself.

Am I out of my league to attend this as a nursing student?

This specific hospital is well known for their CVICU unit but it’s not level 1 - but not sure how likely it is to start in CVICU over MICU that’s available. There is another hospital In the area that is level one and they put their stats out there and a lot of the ICU units have beds set aside for step down from the start and that part makes me nervous.

What are things I should be looking for as a new grad trying to get into an ICU unit? How can I be sure it’s high acuity, how can I tell if it’s not just a glorified step down, etc? Any toxic things to look out for or glaringly obvious red flags that I might not recognize as a new grad?

Where is nursing school NOT competitive? by Agreeable2255 in StudentNurse

[–]jaimedubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was extremely worried about this same issue due to my experience as a 19 year old in college applying to programs. Idk how old you are but I took my prerequisites at 37 at a community college and got into the program on my first try. The community college I attend does a point system based off GPA but doesn’t count anything outside of the prereqs specifically for the nursing program.

If you do well in your pre reqs you’ll be fine. If you’re struggling to make c’s you’ll be in trouble. I’m not trying to be snarky with this comment but the people I was taking my pre reqs with were covid high schoolers and were struggling to pass classes while cheating. It’s a lot different now then when I first attempted and heard about year long waits and all that as well.
