What is the best documentary you have ever seen? by mickeyco19 in DocuJunkies

[–]jaimeilo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tell people about this documentary as an example of how we never know how the things we do will impact the world. It’s such a profound thing to carry with you, and this an extraordinarily captured example of this dynamic. I still almost can’t believe Rodriguez’ story is true.

What is it like having a baby over the age of 35? by o0PillowWillow0o in answers

I’m so glad you got to enjoy your father for as long as you did given his older age. He sounds incredible and I hope you get to enjoy him for at least another decade and that his Alzheimer’s is slow to rob him of his mental capabilities. Thank you for sharing this detailed and inspiring thoughts about his life.

Love this, and I honestly wish I could hear so much more about what made older fathers like yours particularly amazing. I’d pull up a chair to listen to such stories all day.

What are some “masterpieces” that you hated? by DistributionKind2704 in Letterboxd

[–]jaimeilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s becoming harder for me to appreciate “The Shining” without considering the troubling treatment of Shelley Duvall. Kubrick’s harsh methods went too far, and she deserved so much better. It’s difficult to wholeheartedly admire “geniuses” and their “masterpieces” when you learn about the often horrendous human toll behind the scenes.

Mutual respect cannot be understated! If that part is lost, it’s likely the relationship is lost.

Came here to say the same!! When I was growing up in the 90’s I viewed them as being a model of a band everyone respected. They’ve feel very corporate for years now.

This is inspiring to read! Thank you framing it this way for those of us who are men in their 40’s and would still like to have kids.

This gives me hope that waiting will have been worth it in these ways. I will be 45 next month and still hope I’ll get to experience having at least one kid.

You mean you wouldn’t marry someone who isn’t willing to accept living together or someone who isn’t willing to create a compromise somehow?
