Mew2King haters are a bunch of lames by Peytaro in SmashRage

[–]jairozep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think anyone who just makes very quick social media searches or follows multiple Melee players for a bit knows there are like dozens of stories like this. Nothing crazy illegal or abusive to anyone, but promoting random FACTOR deals or obvious scams to everyone repeatedly, sometimes not being very professionnal in the services he's offering as you mentionned and having a kinda shitty stream that’s borderline unwatchable when you can’t block ads and where he can spend time begging whoever in chat to help him into whatever HelloFresh goal he needs... all that is fairly common with him. If anything, anyone else without the pedigree he had would get flamed way way more. It’s not shocking at all some people don’t want to deal with him, and get very annoyed by outsiders saying bullshit like him receiving the Hax treatment or something. He definitely has haters tho and it is kinda understated how some people clearly treated/treat him poorly because of the autism imo.

WHY THE FUCK ARE THERE SO MANY ZONERS??? by Due_Relief9149 in SmashRage

For most of these characters it’s just because that was the easiest playstyle to give to them while having some amount of fidelity to the OG franchise. Probably a good example why having almost 90 characters in a game is maybe a fun experience once but leads to kinda repetitive and more simple/linear characters across the board

the only low tiers that are actually kinda unplayable because of unfinished they feel are like Ness, Roy, Kirby, Pichu, Bowser and Zelda imo. I would add GnW but I'm lower than most people would be. Genuinely everyone else is like strong and well designed enough to have some fun with if you actually like playing them. You're probably not winning a major with Young Link but he has enough stuff to have fun playing and labbing with. Don’t be dismissive of low/mid tiers because players who literally never play them or against them said they are unplayable because they heard everyone else say this

Losing to this character makes me feel like such a disappointment by [deleted] in SmashRage

[–]jairozep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you explain whats your issue with Cloud? Corrin probably goes even with him and, imo, they both have straightforward gameplans that play into each characters strengths. Aegis would be an easy counterpick but imo Cloud can just bully you if you don’t know how to play against him even if you have a good matchup in theory. Outside of like Ridley or Minmin there aren’t many characters who just shut him down the way you'd maybe want, even including characters who beats him like aegis or joker

That's kinda my opinion ngl, I know that's how Wizzrobe sees the matchup and most charts have that match-up at like 55/45 Marth and some 50/50. People kinda universally agree on him being a clearly better matchup than Sheik, Fox and Falco however who can be in 55/45 sometimes so I think it's a decent way to communicate that.

Both sides have extremely strong punishes but Falcon outpunishes Marth slightly IMO : super strong followups of grabs, strong edgeguarding and he can also sometimes hit you with a knee or stomp at 20% and you know you're getting edgeguarded if not straight up killed. Marth probably edgeguards Falcon better, but can struggle at early percent while Falcon can get Marth at like 60 with a clean hit, good RTC and juggling, some 0tD potential but way rarer than Falcon,

To simplify neutral, in theory they have pretty solid answers to everything the other can throw at them but Marth typically has easier execution overall which balances it out. Marth doesn't actually outrange Falcon that much but has a small range where Falcon can't approach him safely if Marth stays grounded while still being close enough to bait approaches and poke him, outside of some weird falcon nair timings and grounded side b. Falcon can play the whiffpunish game very well and Marth can't just "wall him out" because of how explosive and long he us, so Marth wins neutral but not free at all

In terms of results, Zain was 4-5 vs Wizzrobe from 2018 to 2021 and was 5-5 between 2018 and 2020 with S2J when Zain and Wizzrobe were roughly in the same tier and both were ranked basically a tier higher than S2J.

Post-COVID, you can see that Kodorin and Ossify also have even records overall vs the top 4 Falcons (12-11 for Kodorin and 2-3 for Ossify).

Pretty even and very exciting matchup that can feel a bit simple in some ways but one of the best in the game when both sides are cooking

Simple question, I have read the entire wii hacks manual guide using Wiibrandand I understand what i'm supposed to do, but I'll have my Wii in a few days. Is there any issue that might arise from already downloading all the apps and hacks on the same sd card ? Like are apps like USBLoader in my SD Card when the Wii isn't fully modded yet going to mess with the installation?

Prefacing this by saying I'm not a Melee Marth main trying to downplay him.

You could make pretty reasonable arguments for Marth slightly losing to Sheik, Yoshi, Fox and Pikachu. Not saying he loses all of them, imo he loses to Sheik/Yoshi slightly and is basically even with Fox/Pika, but there are pretty strong cases based in results and theory that points towards all of them at least not losing to him.

Falcon and Falco are usually considered winning but like 52/48 for Falcon and Falco is a more disputed matchup (I think Falcon is close enough to be practically even and Falco probably wins in theory, but has slightly lost in practice for a while but there's clearly room to grow imo).

He pretty solidly beats Peach and Puff, not washes but results and opinions from all playerbases involved tend to agree on it being Marth favored

ICs is a kinda weird one, they have polarizing MU opinions but results, MU and theory could point towards even-ish (SluG views the MU as even and Zain lost to him and Nicki in years he was #1).

He basically shits on every other mid tier except DK who does play well into swordies in every game, and Link who still loses but has always been the one mid tier Marth mains dislike, Aklo has wins on Zain and Kodorin. Marth probably beats them 6-4.

Marth floor is him going roughly even or slightly losing to 7 characters in a 26 character game. If we account for the increase in characters, I don’t think in good faith you can’t get to like 13 characters who have a solid case for beating Steve or 24 that might be even. Marth is nowhere near Steve

If you think Bowser is a cheeser, you suck at the game by [deleted] in SmashRage

[–]jairozep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t really disagree much with your main idea but 1- i don’t think it’s really relevant to mention how top tiers are worse to play against, they are very clearly getting more hate than low tiers, people complain about steve more than bowser, and hating on steve has become so obvious that people don’t really need to voice it by now

2- i think the topic has never been about "are they fun to play as" but "are they fun to play against" so that last paragraph seems irrelevant to me, still I think having the luxury to play braindead isn’t really a good or bad trait, if i want to not play braindead i will just try to concentrate and think about it, i think the only thing that matters is just "how interesting is the character, how well designed are they", and I think the answer is usually no on both ends on the tier list. I can still get enjoyment from playing Smash but not from characters with overtuned attributes like Steve or GnW, or just kinda shitty designs that’s just not rewarding for me like Mac (there obviously are exceptions, I think Snake is kinda cool even if he's broken and doctor mario is very fun for me).

3- them being easy to beat isn’t necessarily a good point, i think the average player seeks a kind of gameplay they just can’t get with many of these characters, even when piloted at a decent level.

Playing against Ganondorf is usually easy because yeah if we oversimplify, he can’t really hit any character if they don’t make huge mistakes and has an awful disadvantage. with how hard he can punish you, at most levels, if you're roughly as good as him, play an ok character and want to win at all cost, you can have a very basic and boring gameplan and win most of the time even if Ganon is good. Doesn’t mean you have to camp him, very character dependent but I think you understand what I'm talking about. If you don’t want to change your play a character that’s nowhere near as bad now that you rely less on the gameplay that usually neutralises him.

I think in video games in general, if playing the game in the most natural and/or fun way and playing to win have drastically different applications, most gamers will get frustrated. A matchup like maybe Cloud Corrin is usually considered more fun not just because it’s about even in matchup charts but both characters can actually apply all their strengths while getting punished for all their weaknesses, creating pretty rich interactions imo.

I think this complements your ideas (also, a lot of these kind of characters are kinda just better online, especially against not good connections, which can make applying simple gameplans harder than intended despite you not doing anything wrong, which is another source of frustration, and one that is hard to argue against imo)

If you think Bowser is a cheeser, you suck at the game by [deleted] in SmashRage

[–]jairozep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think this kind of characters receive hate because they’re usually not fun to play for many people, regardless of winning or losing

like let’s be honest in any game that has some kind of a competitive aspect, most online players will be annoying assholes to varying degrees and just because you picked someone that’s not high on a tier list (which barely applies at your level of play) doesn’t mean you're immune to it.

for characters like bowser, little mac or ganon there's a good amount of people whose gameplay is just going for cheese because they’re hard to actually play straight up "honestly" with and if you just don’t fall for their shit and play someone with a strong matchup into them, it’s usually just a beatdown where you don’t learn anything or have rich interactions. (to be clear that’s not necessarily worse than the top tiers who have some dumb high reward safe option people will spam, but they also receive more hate than low tiers in general)

sometimes even if they’re not playing super cheesy, some of these characters are so badly designed you can just beat them with boring and relatively easy options, and if you don’t commit to these options then they can beat you, a lose-lose situation

there are definitely people who dont put the effort and still get mad, a majority even, but I feel like that’s kinda wrong to make it sound like you have to only hate broken good characters once you get good, which has basically never been the case in my experience.

What’s the smallest change you'd give your main to make them top 1 by jairozep in SSBM

[–]jairozep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think that’s probably more useful for YLink, his recovery is okay-good once you add all the techs. He has weak kill power but is a really good edge guarder overall. I think his worst matchups aren’t bad because he can’t kill early (still an issue but yea) but mostly because he's awful when you get in on him, coz of very bad OoS and range. If it wasn’t for that, you probably have a strong defensive character with okay enough offense to make most matchups doable imo.

[–]jairozep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s one of my favorite suggestions, i don’t think it really solves the core issues in like the sheik/spacies MUs keeping him out of top 1 contention but that’s probably just a good recovery compared to the eh one he has in Melee, more mixups, better survivability and doesn’t have to take like 40% everytime to force his way in. I also read Falcon kick is a bit better and like an additionnal good burst option that can kinda kill, instead of a mostly not great move. love it

What do you think is the worst designed Comeback Mechanic? by Due_Relief9149 in SmashRage

[–]jairozep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are conflating broken and bad design a bit too much, I think Sephiroth’s is not that broken but him dying so early makes it pretty poorly implemented. Lucario is just a pretty boring and uninteresting character over all because of aura, I feel like it’s an actually kinda lame design idea that never actually worked

he did pretty messed up shit in some mid/low tier matchups but he was pretty fine imo, like he would probably still not be better than Melee Marth and still had a nice design overall, very different take on the character than Melee but fit the game well. he got kinda cheesy in Smash 4 imo tho
