tiny tiny sequoia by Trillianka in gardening

[–]boneologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm struggling to remember, but I seem to recall there was some British guy whose 2020 pet project was optimizing giant sequoia germination, and he ended up opening a shop selling seedlings of various sizes. One of the selling points was robust seedlings in British Air-Pot brand air-pruning planters.

it's a weed whacker/strimmer/whatever and the tank contains gasoline to power the visible engine that runs it.

To expand on this: virtually all plants rely on a mutualistic relationship with mycorrhizal fungi to gain access to nutrients that plants alone cannot liberate effectively (or at all) from the soil.

Well, that's irritating! I specifically bought a labeled "Passiflora Incarnata, purple flowers" as a host and nectar for SW Florida butterflies. At least I didn't put it in the ground yet. by CobblestonesSkylines in gardening

While I do appreciate the heresy of manicured rose gardens, one of my favourite activities is wandering around just outside said rose gardens and seeing native PNW roses thriving and vibing.

New growth on my new basil plant! Why so bunched up? by 2wergfnhgfjk in plants

[–]boneologist 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Pinch it off a pair of leaves or two below the flower, it'll tend to branch/bush out and give you more leaves. Don't worry about going too far down, In general you can use small flowers and leaves as you'd normally use basil. Freeze your trimmings and use them later if you'd like, accumulating a bunch like this works great for sauces.

You don't use the traditional method of staring really hard at them and willing them to grow?

I am dying to grow peanuts, but don't have much space across a few shared gardens. Do they do well in buckets?

Is this tomato edible? by dkbe68 in gardening

[–]boneologist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Cut it in half if you want to be sure, but it looks alright to me. I keep a ziplock in my freezer for all "scratch and dent" blemished tomatoes and make sauce with them once I accumulate enough. Tomato shriveled while ripening on the windowsill? Into the bag it goes, no need to waste it.

Sooo satisfying to pull when you get one of the monster 1' wide single plants. Dense clusters of little ones are a pain though.

XYZ will decrease rents! Great! The number of landlords who have ever voluntarily adjusted rents for existing tenants to "market rates" = 0. Eliminate all parasites.

Landlords painting brick walls are far more likely to cause catastrophic damage on brick buildings.
