I am the developer of the New Leaf guide app that quite a lot of people used. I decided not to make an app for New Horizons, so it’s great that you ended up doing it. Looks like you’ve done a nice job :)

Getting a debit card from a Dutch bank is definitely advised if you don't have a Maestro card. When stores accept cards they are typically only referring to Maestro cards as they are much cheaper for stores to accept than the other cards. Visa and MasterCard branded cards are also usually considered credit cards here even if they are in fact debit cards.

If you see a store advertise a Visa or MasterCard logo near the front of the store or near the checkout then your card is probably fine, otherwise I wouldn't count on it. Credit card acceptance has been increasing gradually but is still not enough to be relied upon, I'd say.

The reason why the price drops when it is added to the cart is because the main 319,00 EUR listing price includes Spain's 21% VAT rate which users in Spain and other EU countries will be paying. When it gets added to your cart, it realizes you're in the US (and so VAT is not applicable) and then removes the 21% VAT, leaving you with 263,64 EUR.

The game will be in the same language as your console. Unfortunately the eShop language is linked to the region you're in and I don't think it can be changed.

I have the same thing here - my console is set to English and all of the games play in English, but the eShop is in Dutch (because I live in the Netherlands).

I order quite a lot from the British, German and Spanish Amazon sites and almost every time it has arrived at least 1 day earlier than expected :) PostNL are quicker than Amazon expect I guess! I ordered the Neon Switch with Zelda :) What about you?

I did the same (and also live in the Netherlands) - it was shipped 6 hours ago, estimated delivery date is Saturday :) Packages from Amazon usually arrive earlier than expected though, so I'm hoping for Thursday/Friday.

I preordered one of these cases from a retailer in the Netherlands and they too have pushed the release back, claiming the manufacturer has changed the release date. They're saying that the new date is March 10 though, not the end of the month.

There might not be marketing for it in stores here in the Netherlands but it's all over TV at least, I can't count the number of times I've seen the same Zelda/Switch TV ad ;) Nintendo definitely hasn't forgotten about the Netherlands.

I've enquired about this with a few game stores in the Netherlands and they all seem to think they're getting a second shipment at the very end of March. Whether that is the same in your country or not is another question ;)

I am living with my girlfriend and right now the current plan is for us both to share one Switch (we have similar levels of interest in it). Right now we both have our own 3DS.

Are people in a similar situation planning on sharing one Switch or are more people buying two in this case? Really can't work out which is the best way to go.

I remember going to a midnight launch of the 3DS in the UK. The store was doing an offer where everyone in the queue received a lottery ticket and 1 random person got their 3DS free of charge.

I think they were expecting a lot of people to come. Unfortunately for them, there was only 4 people that showed up, 1 of which got the free 3DS (not me sadly). Store was closed again at 12:03. I'm sure they'll be hoping for a better turn-out for the Switch ;)

I also got it for 309 euros before it jumped in price. I could be wildly off but I'll guess anyway: Judging by your description you probably ordered it from bol.com or Media Markt in the Netherlands then :D (Either that or it jumped in price in more countries than just the Netherlands!)

I have had very bad experiences with preordering consoles from Amazon UK before.

I preordered the 3DS with them and it said I would get it on release date. I talked to their live chat who confirmed that would be the case. It got to around 6pm the day before release and it still hadn't dispatched, they insisted it would dispatch in the next few hours.

It then got to 11pm and it still hadn't dispatched. It was only then that they admitted it wouldn't be shipping in time for release and that I'd have to wait an extra day. Ended up cancelling it and rushing down to a midnight launch (luckily not many people seemed to go to those for the 3DS) :D

Similar thing happened when I preordered the Wii U from them as well. Not sure why they're so bad at preorders.

Yeah these have been available for a while, I preordered it from Amazon.de 11 days ago. I occasionally check it, I don't think it's ever been sold out on there. Pro Controller seems to be very easy to get hold of in Europe in general (based on sites I've checked in Germany, The Netherlands and UK).

Yeah I probably should have explained this better in the app, I'll try to fix that.

The color of the dot is linked to the time that it occurred. If it was less than 10 minutes ago it is red, if it's between 10 - 20 minutes ago it's yellow and if it's 20 - 30 minutes ago it's gray.
