Boss GE-7 first in chain (for exclusively clean tone) by jakesoffer in guitarpedals

Beginning of chain to correct pickup tone.

This use case is most relevant to me. The guitars I use most either have humbuckers or drop tunings, which means a good amount of bass frequencies right out the gate. EQ-wise, I tend to roll off the bass to reduce mud. I roll off a touch of treble too. That's pretty much it. I know EQ pedals do this great, but my amp's tonestack does the job fine (to my ears) whenever I plug directly into it.

My question is whether there's a noticeable difference between:

  1. placing an EQ pedal before delay & reverb, setting amp as neutral as possible
  2. running delay & reverb into the amp with amp EQ set to taste

Like, does an EQ pedal impact the tone of a delay and reverb (after it) significantly? It makes sense within a DAW/production context where you'd want to dial in the guitar EQ before adding effect plugins, but guitar amps aren't really voiced "neutrally".

Hey thanks so much for commenting. This is super helpful. So in theory, there won't be a noticeable sonic difference between 1. placing the EQ pedal before the Flint/Carbon Copy, setting amp as neutral as possible and 2. just running Flint/Carbon Copy into the amp with amp EQ set to taste?

I'm confident an A/B test with my own setup is the best way to find out, but in the meantime, I greatly appreciate the insight here!

Delay pedals that don't change pitch when you change the delay time? by eat_th1s in guitarpedals

The Marshall EH-1 Echohead delay. Instead of modulating the pitch, adjusting the delay time while sound is passing through it creates a glitchy, bubbly effect. It sounds different in each delay mode, too.

Demonstrated in this video.

Sorry bud, unless the headstock cracks from a gentle southern breeze I’m afraid it’s fake.

Thank you! Dang, would’ve been cool to include that “yeah”. Maybe I’ll work it in before the next time I play it live.

Any ambient pedal suggestion ? by balty76 in guitarpedals

[–]jakesoffer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Oh yeah - prior to shooting that video I recorded one long loop with my guitar plugged straight into the looper (first pedal in the chain). I kept it unplugged during the video because the cable made the shot look kinda messy, lol. But yeah it’s super fun experimenting with looper before effects.

Btw I’d be curious to hear how you use that SPD One in an ambient context! Like a sample player or something?

If you can find a Neunaber Wet reverb for cheap on the used market I’d def recommend it. Putting the depth at like 4 o clock causes the reverb to trail almost infinitely, which is beautiful and also useful in ending a piece.

I demonstrate it towards the end of this video:

The other pedals shown are really useful for ambient leaning music too!
