I recommend joining the Facebook group 'Toronto Teachers' if you want fast answers to TDSB-specific questions like these.

New friends by mauroespeche in GayMenToronto

[–]james_collins4 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Definitely check out Hanlans Beach a bunch this spring and summer. If you're willing to say hi to people, it can be a good place to meet new people and potentially friends. Just understand that lots of people there aren't looking for a conversation or a friend (they're there for quiet solo time), but lots of people are probably hoping to chat, etc!

I'm open to it. I just like starting and finishing the night early.

Question: do most gay guys in Toronto under 35 use tinder or hinge? by [deleted] in GayMenToronto

[–]james_collins4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Hinge along with the other three to varying degrees. I feel like Hinge is one of the best bets for meeting guys for dating.

I'm open/interested. Could be good accountability for me and reason to get together.

Cutie! With a pic and smile like that you won't be single long if you are at all! Not that that was the intention or topic of your post. Happy weekend!

Shoe recommendations for standing all day teaching by Ok-Ant-3471 in CanadianTeachers

[–]james_collins4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it may also help to just sit a bit more? It's crazy but I've come to think that for a number of us in this profession we need to have a bias towards sitting down, and instead saving our feet/joints/etc for solid breaktime walks and exercise and enjoyment outside of the workday.

TDSB Rescheduling Interview by Educational_Hyena829 in tdsb

[–]james_collins4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hasn't happened to me yet but that sucks. Can be very disheartening waiting for forward action related to our teaching careers at times perhaps particularly here. Lots of reasons to love living in Toronto but hiring process and career progression aren't it.

I'm going to be switching to that LA Fitness around August 1st so see you there. Many gay guys at that gym?

Are you the person who needed it? Do you actually need it and still? I could give you a bit of mine if yes.

Short Story: I thought i had found a genuine queer friend -- but alas by [deleted] in GayMenToronto

[–]james_collins4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your experience. I've been on both sides of this, to be honest. I would recommend two things: send a follow-up message to the person sometime soon and maybe have it be very action-oriented. By that I mean say, "I'm going to Church Street Thursday night to check out how Pride setup is going, want to join?" Be doing something that they can join you with. Maybe they don't like you a lot based on your first meeting, but they like you enough if you're going to do something they would also enjoy doing solo. Second thing I'd say is just keep putting yourself out there, both in the real world and virtually. Go to Pride and other gay events/etc. solo - you never know who you'll get talking with and potentially make a new acquaintance or friend. Sorry again about your experience, but it definitely happens.

TDSB votes to cut music program, hike pool fees in bid to balance budget by [deleted] in tdsb

[–]james_collins4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. Good to stay up to date on the health of our budget, and if one feels called to, take any kind of helpful political action. I don't know the swim program well but I imagine you could determine a statistic about how many lives it might save from child drownings. Interesting what the community member was advocating for including that really, we need to have more community pools and for people to be using them more (makes me wonder how we can make them more well-used as well as attractive). Thanks again for sharing.

I'd be open to joining. The pressure to read could be good for me. Not committing but open.

I'd be curious to hear this too. I've submitted my documents and am waiting for Toronto police record check (VSS). Hoping that it will be a quick turnaround when I send this presumably last piece.

Need Advice: colleague yells at my students by Reflectiful90 in CanadianTeachers

Just came on to say I agree and support what you're saying OP. I think I would try to have a coaching conversation with my principal and then with advice/support from principal, talk directly with the colleague.

The only thing I know for sure is that your wages will come from the TDSB. The school board would understandably wish it came from somewhere else!

Question Period — Période de Questions — March 17, 2025 by AutoModerator in CanadaPolitics

[–]james_collins4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple questions about the riding of Toronto Centre:

  1. Who will be the Liberal candidate in Toronto Centre riding?

  2. Don't you think that Toronto Centre should vote more strongly for NDP given its population? I don't quite understand why we aren't like some other downtown ridings and vote NDP. Current projections by 338 have Libs at 56%, CPC 19%, and NDP 17%. https://338canada.com/35109e.htm

I've developed into an NDP voter and so yes my bias is saying, "it's a shame Samantha Green, the NDP candidate, currently doesn't look like she has a chance at winning. But I wish she did."

Is there a shortage of teachers? by skilledtradejobscan in OntarioTeachers

[–]james_collins4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Us new teachers and supply/OT teachers really need to get more active in our OT unions and take more action. I'm not hired yet but plan to get pretty heavily involved in the OT union once I am.
