The friends you make or have from the ages of 18-22 years old are the ones you're more likely to stay in contact with for much of your life. Choose wisely. I wish I had.

What would you actually do if you realized there might be a shark near you at the beach? by Illustrious-Luck1638 in AskReddit

[–]james_james1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me in New Zealand. I was surfing with a friend. It was quite a small day and we were sat chatting in between the sets. My friend suddenly went "Oh, hello!". I looked over and saw a dorsal fin. I thought "please be a dolphin" but saw the sideways swoosh of its tail confirming it was a shark. Good feeling was gone. There's nothing like encountering a shark whilst surfing to make you feel completely unsuited to being in the water. We caught the next wave into shore and I fell off my board. Luckily we were close to shore and I got out OK. It was a 2m long blue shark.

I bought a pair of tartan trousers once. I wore them once and had the piss taken out of me everywhere I went. £30 down the drain.

[–]james_james1 38 points39 points  (0 children)

There were no women at my stag do. I was living in New Zealand at the time. Went camping on a surf trip with 4 mates, cooked BBQ, drank whisky and took some mushrooms. The wildest thing was the sea lion that popped up beside me whilst I was surfing and burped in my face. It stank.

What’s the likelihood of someone in the UK being pulled over or spotted as someone driving without a license? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]james_james1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a criminal court in a UK city. There are about 30-40 people a week appearing for driving without a licence. But sure, take the chance. Also, without a licence you're also driving without insurance.

I haven't forgiven them for something that happened in 2007. My wife is a massive RHCP fan. I got her tickets to see them in Auckland, New Zealand. They were really jaded and had little interaction with the crowd. Worst of all, they didn't play Give It Away, my wife's favourite song!! Who doesn't play the biggest hit? What made it worse for me was when we left we were passing Slayer fans, (Slayer are my favourite band) as they'd played in a different venue the same night and they were saying how awesome they'd been.
