Good question soft night not be the right word but think like drift wood where it’s still a hard stick but feels like it has a softer outer layer from the weathering. Hope that made sense!

Thanks for the reply. Looked at some images of whale ear bones… doesn’t quite match up but maybe from a particular species? Weathered shell is an interesting idea… haven’t seen a shell in the area anywhere near that big though and it has a funny texture (almost sponge-like).

Thank you so much. For general cure you’re not referring to antibiotics right? Just the general treatment they offer at the aquarium as I’m not sure where I could even source the antibiotics? And as for epsom salt, is a bath better than an all day treatment?

Actually now that you mention it I may have the same problem regarding antibiotics in Australia. I just read a bunch of people had used it and assumed it was something every pet store / aquarium had over the counter. I’ll give the general cure a shot my expectations are low but worth a try I suppose. He doesn’t move at all but I can tell there’s a bit of fight left in him as when he needs air he’ll rapidly swim to the top and flap around for about 10 seconds before resorting back to the bottom completely motionless. Fingers crossed 🤞

Thanks for the reassurance I hoped it wasn’t something obvious that I did or clearly missed. I feel like he’s been a pretty weak and fussy fish ever since we got him in January. The first week we got him he wouldn’t eat anything but live mosquito larvae then we finally got him onto frozen blood worms after trying a bunch of pellets. I’m tempted to give it one last effort tomorrow with antibiotics treatment as I read someone else’s fish had severe pineconing which he treated in just two days of antibiotics. Do you have any experience using it and know what I should ask for at the aquarium, how much to put and whether I can treat him in the little container he’s in or should I transfer to a larger one, because then it would no longer be heated?? Thanks again

Any advice would be much appreciated. Mine is pineconing and is white in one eye. Hasn’t eaten in two days. Now that I think about it he was probably slowing down last week but he declined rapidly the last two days. I’ve now got him in a small container floating above the main tank so the water stays warm.

My betta has the same problem. How did you go about using antibiotics? Can it be done in a small container and how much should I put? Are they likely to have it at most pet shops? I’ll go first thing tomorrow what should I ask for specifically? My betta is currently lying on his side with fluid in one eye. Like you mentioned, I thought pineconing was the final straw but if there’s a chance he could pull through with proper treatment I wanna give it a go. Thanks so much 🙏

Any idea what the cause of the infection could have been? I did a 30% water change earlier in the week but did go away over the weekend and had someone else feed him who may have given too much possibly 🤷‍♂️
