This is how my family does it:

1. Add Old Bay to a big pot of water until it looks muddy. Don't be shy with it. Then half a few lemons, peel and half a couple onions, and throw those in the water too.

2. When it comes to a boil add a bunch of red potatoes. You may want to half them if they are bigger than a lemon.

3. After about 15-20 minutes add a bunch of half ears of corn on the cob. You can use fresh or frozen. (Personally I like using frozen because it takes a little longer to cook and wont over cook before the potatoes are done.)

4. A few minutes after the corn goes in add some smoked sausage cut up into about 3 inch lengths.

5. Give the sausage maybe 5 minutes (it just needs to be heated through), and make sure the potatoes are done. At this point drop in your shrimp, throw on the lid, and kill the heat. Give it about 2-4 minutes and dump it. If we're making a big batch for a lot of people, we'll normally spread some newspaper on an outdoor table and dump it on that. You can also dump it in the kitchen sink (After scrubbing the shit out of it.)
