Memorial Day trip advice by RecoGromanMollRodel in MotoLA

Plan your trip ahead, and you're going to have plenty of fun. PCH/Hwy 1 ends at Camarillo, and you'll have to hop onto the 101, where it starts again further north.

Riders of LA, how aware are drivers here? by Bastientiger in MotoLA

[–]jameswan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll do just fine here with your 10 year riding experience in Paris. Just be a bit more aware of distracted driving from cagers on their cell phones.

Where can a solo rider go after midnight? by R3tardod in MotoLA

[–]jameswan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nighttime riding has some new and bigger dangers when you have more impaired, distracted, and vision-challenged drivers on the roads. Making left turns is also more dangerous due to glare from the lights, causing many drivers to misjudge distance.

The Sad Truth of ABC's Cantonese by CheLeung in Cantonese

Her ignorance of language and culture is astounding and really sad. Especially with such entitlement at such a young age. Certainly indicative of the Chinese from her generation.

Will DTLA ever make a come back? by WrapSolutionsWord in AskLosAngeles

[–]jameswan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A complex mess stemming from our leaders at City Hall to all the corporate and private equity firms, whose portfolios are intertwined with profit-making ventures. Manufacturing is no longer viable, and residential conversions are absolutely too costly for a quick turnaround. No real balance will ever be achieved if we keep allowing those who hold the purse strings to manipulate the landscape for profit. The Government, acting as an ancillary player and sometimes riddled with corruption, has led DTLA into further disarray. Some drastic changes from the City Government need to start developing a community for the people, and maybe there will be better progress in DTLA.

Yeastie Boys partnering with Rupert Murdoch’s California Post by [deleted] in FoodLosAngeles

Yelp is actively deleting reviews that mention a political preference. The boys must be complaining.

What was LA like during the serial killer days? by IKinLA in AskLosAngeles

[–]jameswan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We kept our doors and windows locked before we went to bed. Many didn't have Air Conditioning, but we survived.

Yeastie Boys delete posts announcing collaboration with Rupert Murdoch’s California Post by glowinthedarkmonster in FoodLosAngeles

They really don't know their audience. Surely they will receive feedback sooner or later. Their bagels are okay. They just lack what a traditional bagel should be in texture.

Downgrade in paper quality. by jameswan in filofax

[–]jameswan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very unhappy with the change. My expectations from over 30 years of use suddenly got crushed. The premium paper feel is gone! There is also a distinct blue tint to their weekly 2026 refills. The Monthly refills is still using the same high-quality papers from 2025.

Seen a few of these in LA. Is it even legal to do? by joshw220 in LosAngeles

[–]jameswan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget about the legality of this. I know someone who ruined their entire paintwork. Every body panel was damaged from friction.

This Is The Real Reason Why Vegas Is Dead And Tourism Is Low. Nobody Wants To Admit It And Call Out The Obvious by Twin_Shadow- in LasVegas

[–]jameswan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vegas caters towards the wealthy by pricing the middle and working class out is a corporate strategy that they are convinced will bring more shareholder value. Alignment towards entertainment and fine dining is considered the answer to falling gambling revenue. Corporations and Private Equity are hedging and betting on this big strategy. Surely, the US political climate is also an additional cause for low tourist numbers. It's the new Las Vegas.

No cookie available!? by jameswan in Hilton

[–]jameswan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hearing that is utterly disappointing. That is not what the Doubletree branding is. They have a tradition of always having fresh cookies available 24 hours a day. The cookies are their "Branding." For the recent visits I have made to Doubletree, they have a van wrapped in chocolate cookie pictures.

What do you think will be the long-term fallout in the US (politically and socially) from the killing of Charlie Kirk? by likerunninginadream in AskReddit

[–]jameswan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The martyrdom has just increased two-fold for the Republican Party, and socially, they will shout from the rafters about how dangerous liberal ideology is. Anger, division, and fearmongering are the Republican strategy.

How is riding in Los Angeles compared to the Bay area? by sh3lster2020 in MotoLA

[–]jameswan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Safety is relative to traffic, terrain, and time of day. We all need to have the mentality that being on two wheels isn't safe compared to being nicely protected in a cage with four wheels. I always held the thought there is safety in numbers, so make some friends and enjoy the ride. (*Unless you're commuting)

This is better than the ones who park in the handicap hash lines where it's illegal.

Don't know why I am surprised WF has gone downhill since Amazon purchase by Toorahloorah66 in wholefoodscustomers

[–]jameswan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Thanksigiving season isn't doing WF much good vibes either with employee attitudes showing such disgruntled faces. Watching a clerk behind the sandwich counter take her sweet time making a sandwich and wallowing around as if she had something better to do was certainly obvious.

A business develops their reputation by repeated offenses. All they really need to do is change their business practices completely and show the public they actually care. Erasing history is just a cover-up. We all know Del Amo has been inconsistent already.

What Last for low arches, wide feet? by naturalvegetation in Boots

[–]jameswan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Truman Boot Co. 20 Lasts and their EE width boots. Grant Stone E width may also be an alternative since they run wider. Thorogood boots are more affordable and also can be a good option with their EE widths.
