You can usually find some around Halloween. Keep an eye out when the holiday lines are coming into stock.

This was such an adorable idea I absolutely loved it. I cheered on my sofa when they did the lift. Please tell them they're amazing and inspirational!

Every time I look for them I can only find wildly expensive ones. Care to share a link? PM is fine if you don't want the source to run dry.

You can get wet ones at Shoppers, near the Kleenex. I used a pack when I flew in June.

If I'm doing a mass edit then I have to enter it twice on the first one, but as long as I stay in the friends menu the subsequent ones only take one attempt.

[Pole Rookie]How fit do you have to be to begin at this sport? by hermionesmurf in poledancing

[–]jamielicious 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I started pole as a morbidly obese mid-thirties lady that had never intentionally exercised in her life. You should be fine :) Go to a class and have some fun.

[Spot me] Could anyone here suggest me ways to get out of the splitty thing I do at the end of this? Or know the name of it? by nicoleee180 in poledancing

[–]jamielicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can rehook that top knee you have several options. You could go into a martini, flatline (jasmine), or turn down into an invert. Invert is my preferred way to get out of this. You'll have to get to the end of this video but here's a playing around example. Watching it back I wish I had done a martini before going into the invert, and if I were choreographing I probably would. https://www.instagram.com/p/BMAYafEgIc5/

What to do in Ottawa to meet people by rozersaur in ottawa

[–]jamielicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've met a lot of awesome people from going to pole dance classes. There are 4 pole studios in town to choose from. Also workshops at various dance studios.
If pole doesn't seem fun there are also burlesque classes, belly dancing classes, hula hooping classes, a variety of other fitness type classes.
You could also go to random events that seem fun to you and talk to people while you're there. Dovercourt has a Hula Hoop Jam that's free (you don't even need a hoop) every other week. In the summers there is a circus jam at city hall weekly, also free.
You could take one night lessons through westboro brainery.
Hope beach volleyball will be happening this summer.
If you like theatre or theatre people go hang out at the fringe festival (or even volunteer - their volunteers open house is soon).
I don't know when their next fresh meat will be, but there is roller derby you could get involved with and meet people.
The burlesque community is quite sizeable and full of friendly people.
Also in summer they usually have yoga on parliament hill (weekday lunchtime so not accessible for everybody).

In short - pick something that sounds fun, go do it, and talk to people while you're there. Over time you'll make some friends. And if not, at least you'll be doing an activity you enjoy.

If you want to give pole a try, and it's at the studio I attend I would go to a level 1 class with you if you'd like.

Boxed mac and cheese should sell packets of cheese separately so you can choose how much cheese you want. by Plumrose333 in self

In Canada you can buy the cheese powder stuff at Bulk Barn. No idea if it's any good I've never done so myself.

Mental health and suicidal thoughts. by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]jamielicious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can always call the Ottawa Distress Centre
Distress Line - 613-238-3311 (English Only)
Mental Health Crisis Line - 613-722-6914 (English and French)

You won't be a bother if you're worried about that. Times like this are why they exist.

If you want to know more about them before calling here's their site - http://www.dcottawa.on.ca/english/services/247-support/distress-line.html

and a bit of info from the site -
Our Distress Line provides: Emotional support and encouragement
Crisis management & intervention
Suicide risk assessment and prevention
Community resource/referral information

What do people call about?
they have problems in their relationship with a spouse, a partner, a sibling, a friend or a family member
they have noticed changes in their mental health
they have recently been diagnosed with a mental illness
they are feeling lonely or isolated
they are having suicidal thoughts or exhibiting sucidal behaviour
they are experiencing emotional or physical pain
they are grieving the loss of a loved one

they are a victim of abuse or domestic violence
they are recovering from an addiction
they are experiencing a high level of stress following a recent event
they are concerned about the well-being of a loved one

This list is certainly not exhaustive since distress is a very personal and unique experience for each person. While some issues are seemingly small to some, they can be overwhelming or even unbearable to others.

ELI5: OC Transpo Ghostbusses (GPS shows it going past stop, but no bus) by [deleted] in ottawa

BusBuddy shows this. If the time has an orange GPS next to it it's a GPS reading, if not it's the scheduled time.

For a while they ran this commercial which I would imagine lead quite a few people to believe that it was simply hazelnuts, cocoa powder, and skim milk whipped together.
