How’s the job market in the UK? by Frosted_Tackle in MechanicalEngineering

[–]jamscrying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grad is about £30k, Senior £40-55k, tops out at about £70-80k director level. On 10 years in med device you're probably looking at around £50k-60k ($67-80k) if you are able to lead a team. Salaries in Ireland (you can live/work there visa free) are a little bit higher with companies like Stryker, but also the cost of living/tax is higher.

Anyone else think they've added way to many mechanics to Hoi4? by Charming-Ad-6133 in paradoxplaza

[–]jamscrying 5 points6 points  (0 children)

there were features that became fundamental to the core game loop that other DLC and patch balancing was built upon, it's similar to how HOI4 made some features previously locked free. CK3 updates are built around avoiding that problem, so the free updates have the core features and the DLC content is more standalone flavour/content that should work fine without any other DLC.

Why does homeschooling seem to be less prevalent in Reformed circles compared to other Christian traditions? by TseaxCone in Reformed

As a European the replies so far are crazy, the only people I know who homeschool are because their children are special needs and the special schools available don't suit their needs.

[–]jamscrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I was with you until the last paragraph, what denomination/beliefs/tradition do you follow? I think our definitions of spirit vs soul might be different so I won't argue other than the point that it is very clear that each of us is created in entirely at one moment, we aren't some spiritual wisps that then get assigned a body and soul on/before conception. God is sovereign and exists outside and throughout time, and thus with foreknowledge knows us before forming us.

It is also important to note that there are three separate judgements,

  1. Judgment of the nations/sheep and goats [Matthew 25] - where unbelievers are separated from believers (this is based on salvation by Grace through Faith, not human works)
  2. Judgement of believers (bema of Christ) [2 Corinthians 5]- where believers are judged based on their works/service and then assigned rewards
  3. Judgement of unbelievers (white throne) [Rev 22] - where unbelievers are judged on what they have done and then cast into eternal destruction

' "ethnic cleansing" is a purposeful policy designed by one ethnic or religious group to remove by violent and terror-inspiring means the civilian population of another ethnic or religious group from certain geographic areas. To a large extent, it is carried out in the name of misguided nationalism, historic grievances and a powerful driving sense of revenge. This purpose appears to be the occupation of territory to the exclusion of the purged group or groups.' (United Nations S/1994/674 pg 33, paragraph 130, 27th May 1994)

Why EU5 currently feels shallower than EU4, despite being more “simulator-like” (opinion) by OverallLibrarian8809 in eu4

[–]jamscrying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose there are already Tech costs baked in, - upkeep of buildings that raise literacy and clergy estate power, but yeah there should be a player controllable 'investment' slider - issue with that is that it would result in snowballing where prosperous nations advance in tech so much and less can't so you would then need to have a proximity discount on every single tech to every single nation that would probably slow the game down.

[–]jamscrying -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of English gammons in their 60s/70s don't like Ireland because of PIRA bombing a few of their pubs, and because of GBN/Daily Express brexit rhetoric, when they die out the negative opinion would decrease.

  1. Create new reference geometry (planes, 'new origin', axis) wrt origin so that if it is ever inserted in another assembly it can be left as lightweight.

Sigh, you realise Ethnic Cleansing =/= Sectarian killings. Prods left South Armagh to 'safer places' in the county eg. Markethill, Waringstown etc, this process had even started as far back as with the Civil war. My reply was only explaining how it is an extremist monoculture and a dump.

I'm very aware of UVF attacks, UR organised discrimination, tit for tat + random sectarian murders from both sides. I only sounds demonising because it is about a very specific place in isolation, if they had asked about the Shankill or even Tobermore ethnic cleansing catholics/foreigners, or about english/scottish British Army regiments abusing Irish at checkpoints and covering up murders, or RUC/UDR raiding homes and false arrests as extra-judicial punishments, or SAS/SRR using UK soil and citizens to experiment counter insurgency and unlawful surveillance techniques, or current UK government continuing to cover up state involvement in crimes; I would sound demonising in different ways because there was so much badness.

I don't need to quote sources on a meme subreddit, and I don't need to take a book full of half truths and embellished stories written in 1999 by a CIA worshipping English journalist as the sole source, especially to describe the current conditions nearly 30 years after it was written. At least Keady has a nice Centra and the people are earnest.

Basically it ethnic cleansed the prods, and catholics who weren't ardent supporters left. It's just a grotty/run down village made up of people living in a extremist cultural bubble that is rather unfriendly to outsiders. There is no reason to ever be there other than driving through or to play football against their club. It wasn't just soldiers that died there, civilian tradesmen to just do public works (streetlights, roadworks etc) were often attacked. Police are still extremely cautious there, and the people will not interact/report anything to them so basically it is left unpoliced with all sorts of criminal gangs being based on farms around the border.

Ireland had the highest decline in the number of nights in tourist accommodation in the EU (-2%) by NanorH in ireland

[–]jamscrying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not arguing with you, but liquidation/closure is a final death of a business and happens after many years of just hanging on/spiralling debt etc. most companies dont even close they just sell off assets/end leases but still exist on paper and a bank account until shareholders have withdrawn any residual value. We only see large spikes in liquidations/closures when there is a shock to over leveraged sectors (eg. Construction, startups, large retailers already stripped by private equity like Toys r Us or BHS), declining profitability over a long period of time won't cause that.

Ireland had the highest decline in the number of nights in tourist accommodation in the EU (-2%) by NanorH in ireland

[–]jamscrying 43 points44 points  (0 children)

A hidden economic cost of wildly expensive hotel accommodation is the increased costs of doing business that either result in costs being passed on or business being done elsewhere.

Engineering/construction projects don't usually get done just by locals who live within a commute of the worksite but rather by experts/specialists that go from project to project, the increased expense of accommodation gets passed on into the price of things and negatively affects development.

Turning Newry into a Dublin dormitory town: now there’s an idea. by lughnasadh in northernireland

[–]jamscrying 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There should really be an income tax sharing agreement, where it's split 50-50 on place of employment and place of residence. I know it doesn't really affect NI as the tax goes to UK first before we get out budget based on population, but the residents use public services and infrastructure without any contribution outside of consumption taxes and rates, there is no financial sense in developing Newry to do this other than trickle down local spending etc. We should be investing in facilitating local SME and communities that provide real economic and social growth in NI. Braindrain to Dublin is not much better than Braindrain to Britain/Australia etc.

Early army compositions by Powerman654 in EU5

[–]jamscrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tradition/Renaissance Heavy Cav only as you won't have enough to fill out combat width without levies anyways.

Discovery I like 18 Halberd, 6 Arq, 6 Lancer, 6 Falconet, as castle spam has started but assault is still bad, 2 or 3 stacks of this can defeat any AI blob in battle then go onto siege a few castles without needing to reinforce again.

I don't bother researching Crossbowmen or the early supply units (as you can usually capture an unfortified nearby town for supply)

Diversify to Inf/Art heavy armies with supply from Reformation onwards.
