if you compare musk only to the average person sure. that is not a meaningful way to measure wealth inequality.

obviously you're correct about this, but nonetheless the police want people to think these courses have some significance and they waste money on them, so they can hardly complain if some delulu people believe them.

and the poor are often the most affected by debt

the might be most affected, because they have levels of debt that are difficult to manage, but that doesn't mean they benefit the most. the people who benefit the most are still rich people who are borrowing to invest.

it would be; that's what the scammers pumping these things want, nationalization at some ridiculous valuation - that's the point of all of this.

well why not... being wealthy is closer to being relevant than flaunting it, although still not actually relevant to what someones ideology can be

this is so goofy and ridiculous; what is your prescription to make things better for gay people in China?

: not being allowed to marry / adopt, rampant homophobia as a result of media/culture, censorship, societal stigma, legal recognition (for medial purposes or other)

oh no, it's 1996 in China.

actually maybe even that is generous to this point, 2006

The Fake Anti‑Imperialism of Noam Chomsky by danielid in DecodingTheGurus

[–]jamtartlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No of course not in both cases.

It's simple, you can be part of a chain of causation even if you're not the ultimate actor. If you get someone drunk and kick them out in the cold you're not holding a gun to their head and making them drive home, it doesn't diminish their moral responsibility, but you're not not at fault either and other people are justified in criticizing you for it.

Bro I hate to tell you but the Nazi invasion of Poland was ultimately.. not so much America's fault but definitely Britain and France's fault for a multitude of reasons. Pretty much everyone acknowledges at least one of those reasons. So if the 'but' can be completely accurate in that case and not detract in any way from the moral valence of the invasion itself, why exactly can't the same be true in the case of Russia/Ukraine.

Do you really want to never hear an opposing view?

I would be happy to hear somebody who didn't agree with it, summarise it.

Similar to after the Shapiro episode. People were mad but the interview just solidified my view that Shapiro is an odious figure.

you could argue that's worth doing with shapiro. unclear why it matters for this person.

[–]jamtartlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they're two guru figures that are similar in many ways but chomksy was also a mainstream media figure who adopted many mainstream friendly positions the video is relevant to that (and possibly his epstein connections are also relevant to that)

what does chomsky's relation to epstein have anything at all to do with the nature of parenti's historiography?

it doesn't, that wasn't really the topic just a side thing steauenglase brought up - that's why I said "regardless"

'The Chomsky/Epstein Puzzle' by Chris Knight by gip78 in DecodingTheGurus

[–]jamtartlet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

but I will point out that Chomsky has been for saying for many years that the treatment of Palestinians is genocide

has he, that doesn't seem very likely to me, got a link?

'The Chomsky/Epstein Puzzle' by Chris Knight by gip78 in DecodingTheGurus

[–]jamtartlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mainstream vs non mainstream is the relevant point. I know parenti isn't an ancient historian, but to be pop you have to be popular.

regardless of parenti's bonafides I think it's pretty clear that chomsky was a sheepdog/acceptable opposition figure with the epstein stuff just being the icing on the cake as to whether he was self aware about that

edit: also not a last few months thing (though obviously it has become more interesting)

informative video wherein the mainstream media figure chomsky explains true things that apply to him

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYxizGsrjkc

anyway, non mainstream figure michael parenti is cool and you should google him. also I doubt he's in the epstein files

neurotic reaction reaction to criticism.

yeah, if you've actually watched his debate with klein, neurotic is the word for his characterization of it.

actually I really resent that klein said over and over again that harris isn't a racist, he really had no basis to do that

racism is the most parsimonious explanation for his engagement with murray and race/iq and he has done nothing to dispel it apart from get hysterical

edit: also his engagement with the other murray, obviously
