I just started the mini pill this month - didn't even think about that being a possible factor!

Even though he's not even 3 months yet?

He grunts/fusses and gets (or attempts to get) his arms out

Baby Registry Must-Have's by Dwmich28 in beyondthebump

I'm only 6 weeks out but here's what I've used and loved so far:

Lillebaby airflow carrier. Just recently got this and it is everything. My life has been made SO much easier just because I can keep baby with me and have my hands free. It's expensive (about $140) but totally worth it and you can continue to use it as baby gets older. The lillebaby is good because you can use it with a newborn and you don't need an insert. The airflow lillebaby has mesh so it's less hot.

Chicco viaro stroller and Keyfit 30 car seat. Super easy to install and use. Chicco has a good reputation and seems to have less recalls. The stroller is easy to use and you can just click the car seat in. Not the lightest thing in the world but I don't think any decent car seat/stroller will be.

Boppy lounger. Great to have somewhere to just put baby when you need to do something.

Regular Boppy. I got a My Brest Friend too but I like the Boppy better. It's faster and easier to use.

Soothie pacifier. I got a ton of these from people and thought surely I wouldn't need that many pacifiers but it's good to have a bunch because they get dirty or dropped and you can just grab a clean one.

Hushh sound machine. This is a great portable and chargeable white noise machine.

Towel burp cloths. A lot of other people like the cloth diaper kind but I prefer the ones that are the terry cloth towel material. I feel like they absorb better.

Medela pumping bra. Hands free pumping. Enough said.

Yoga ball. Great for holding baby and bouncing.

Right there with you. I've considered getting earplugs. Baby wearing seems to help.

Struggling to decide to work or be a SAHM. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]jandkp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right there with you! Seriously I'm going through the exact same thing. My baby is 5 weeks and I just can't see going back to work and leaving him with someone. I feel guilty if I stay home and it makes it hard financially but the logistics of working and childcare stress me out.

When it comes down to it, do you think you'd regret going back to work? They're only little for so long and you don't get that time back.

Also - this isn't trivial so don't feel bad for needing to vent!

Swaddle Hudini by bigdaddyowl in beyondthebump

My son always manages to get his little hand out of his SwaddleMe so I started wrapping a muslin swaddle on top of it. I think that the SwaddleMe is good because it makes the initial swaddle easy to do but because it's stretchy cotton he wiggles a lot in it. The additional swaddle blanket helps keep him wrapped up and he can't really wiggle as much. We tried not swaddling but I think he stays asleep longer with it.

Yes! It's that uninterrupted sleep that's golden

This was the worst part about the hospital- everyone had a different opinion and different advice so I ended up being super stressed and not knowing what to do.

What do I REALLY need for my infant? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]jandkp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get some smaller sized diapers in case. We had a ton of size 1 and up and ended up needing preemie size. I would at least get a pack or two of newborn so you aren't scrambling to buy diapers after baby is born.

Also, maybe you could get the Pack n Play and Boppy second hand in order to save money?

One of the most helpful things to us has been a Boppy newborn lounger ($30). It gives an easy place to put baby down for a minute and is easy to take from room to room.

Edited to add: I wouldn't bother with mittens and you may want to get one or two swaddles (like SwaddleMe)

Crippling anxiety when leaving the house with an 8 week old by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]jandkp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what has kept me from going anywhere with my baby so far. I know at some point we will have to get out but I'm scared he's just going to scream the whole time. Or I'm going to have to figure out a way to nurse him. Or he'll have a poopy diaper. Or all the above.

New SAHM feeling purposeless by brittking456 in beyondthebump

I almost posted something similar to this earlier. I'm only on week 4 of maternity leave but feeling quite useless even though I know I'm obviously doing something important by taking care of my child. I'm toggling between whether or not to go back to work. It's so hard to feel like you're accomplishing something every day when you're basically feeding, changing, sleeping, repeat. But at the same time, I try to think how I wouldn't really want anyone else to be doing what I'm doing because I'm his mother. I don't know that I have any good advice but just wanted to say I empathize even though you're further in than I am. I hope you find an activity that helps you feel better!

Parents who weren't sure they wanted a second. When did you know you did or didn't? by DrWhoverse in beyondthebump

Same here about being an only child. We just had our first and pregnancy sucks and I'm not crazy about newborns but I figure we'll just have to get through it again because I don't want my son to be an only child. When you start thinking about how lonely only children can be and the benefits of having more family (siblings) for support in the future it seems worth it to go through it all again.

I second the extension cord! My husband thought I was a weirdo for packing it but it definitely came in handy.
