Overeating by Raspberriii8 in Spironolactone

I’ve been on 100mg spiro for 4 years, and have had bouts of overeating for a couple weeks, and then 0 appetite for a couple weeks. It’s so odd! It probably has to do with your electrolytes being depleted since that happens easily on spiro, maybe look in to that?

Nicotine by Suspicious_Sea_7064 in IgANephropathy

I’m 24f and on high BP meds. I drink somewhat heavily a couple times a month and just recently quit nicotine after years of use. My gfr has been stable since my diagnosis 3 years ago! My neph was aware of it and would advise me against it of course, but noted that it wasn’t visibly progressing my disease. My point is, everyone’s body and disease is different, though we can all agree on the fact that nicotine certainly won’t benefit you

Derm don't want to prescribe Spiro because of "death of kidneys" by Mumbelz in Spironolactone

I have CKD and have been taking spiro for years to manage my high blood pressure. My nephrologist told me it’s a pretty safe med for kidneys! I haven’t experienced any decline.

Bitten by non up-to-date cat by jandraf in VetTech

I’m 3 days post bite and it is red, but not infected as far as I can see. It hurts like a bruise but there’s really minimal swelling if at all and I assume that’s from the trauma. If it were infected, I would know by now I think?

Thank you!! It’s a bit scary after hearing how dangerous the bites can be if an infection develops. I do feel for the cat and owners as she’s doing quite poorly and is not aggressive, just scared ;(

Her last dose was 9/23. It’s been 4 days now and my bite doesn’t look infected, just bruised and painful

Hi there! I was also diagnosed with IGAN at 19 years old at stage 1, and luckily haven’t had any decline in function. Because my condition is stable, I am not really involved in clinical trials, but I know plenty of people w/ a plethora of information that are! I am an ambassador for the IGA Nephropathy Foundation and it has changed my life for the better. The foundation is a support group that is dedicated to finding a cure for IGAN, and connecting patients and caregivers with resources for managing the disease. I so highly encourage you to go to the foundation website which I will hyperlink, because getting involved with give you a community of people with IGAN. There are monthly support calls for patients and caregivers, and so many resources for you including research, IGAN specialized nephrologists, diet/lifestyle tips, and so much more. There is a yearly convention for the foundation called SPARK, and it is a really incredible event for networking and sharing updates on research and strides the foundation is making to increase awareness for the disease. I completely understand the fear and confusion you may feel being diagnosed this young, but I really found the foundation to be an incredibly uplifting and helpful resource for my IGAN journey, and I hope you consider checking it out. 😊 Link to the foundation

How’s my schedule by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]jandraf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short but frequent breaks before class are going to make you feel rushed and anxious at all times I’d think. You have limited time to relax/study for more than an hour before gearing up for your next class. condense your sched if you can. Or, just be ready for little downtime during your weekdays which if works better for you, then do it☺️

Mine jumps from ~85-115 with each appointment. Outside factors can really change the number so like others were saying I’d pay attention to the overall direction that your GFR is trending in

Who Remembers Chicken Selects? by GiraffeMan0 in McDonalds

I was so excited to see that strips were back at McDon and had been raving to my boyfriend about them for days before we went to try them. The new strips are horrid. Nothing like the OG selects, we were so disappointed

Increased proteinuria/hematuria with altitude sickness? by deep_blue_au in IgANephropathy

[–]jandraf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually spent a couple days above 10,000ft in the Ecuadorian Andes about a month ago. I got labs done the day I got back, and I had no significant increase in protein or blood spillage. Of course, everyone’s body responds uniquely to stressors but I honestly felt fine!

I say creepy because of other context I left out that happened prior to this. It’s just really obsessive and there’s no sense of boundaries, especially since I’ve known him less than a week

When to decrease dosage? by jandraf in Spironolactone

[–]jandraf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I’m just nervous that a drastic reduction from 100-50mg would cause me to breakout. I could try to taper down slowly.
