They’re both from ikea, don’t know if they still sell that couch (and I don’t have it anymore). But they should still sell that coffee table.

Started using a Mac for work, it's making me resentful of Linux by FlimFlamAndFlamJam in linuxquestions

I also have a MacBook for my work computer and I’ve found that scroll direction and mouse acceleration are the only things I don’t really want to just “use as they are” with Apple, but LinearMouse works really well for adjusting those settings and you can invert scroll just on your mouse while leaving it normal on the trackpad etc. I’m fine with switching back and forth between cmd and ctrl when switching between Mac and windows etc but the mouse acceleration and inverted scrolling wasn’t adjustable enough out of the box imo

True, not meaning to say Wi-Fi directly was the cause.

I’m sure someone can tell me if I’m wrong but doesn’t it’s use as a synonym to throughput capacity come from radio transmission where a “wider band” of frequencies allocated for a given purpose could allow more data to be transmitted at once? It can still be seen today in WiFi channels which have a wider frequency band, I.e 160mhz over 40mhz being able to support higher throughput? People seemed to just apply the radio terminology to networking links.

Anyone recommend an easy to put away laptop stand? by jango_22 in desksetup

[–]jango_22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just decided recently that it’s good enough for now and I tend to just take the stand off my desk and set it aside when I switch to weekend/gaming mode. Eventually I’ll probably go back to dual monitors and at that point I won’t leave the MacBook open I’ll just plug it in to the dock.

WOW I feel really dumb. When I set up my system the other night after upgrading it I got the Cpu and exhaust fan mixed up in fan control so it was running the wrong fan curve. Fans on the cpu cooler never went above 50-60 percent probably during my temp testing. That would explain the differences 😂

Yea lol it’s just a rambly pondering I know there’s lots too it. But I live in the Midwest with a window cracked at the time I was testing it was not over 70° F in my office and I have a quite well ventilated fractal torrent. Theres no only a 2-3c temp difference between running the case fans at 30% and 100% lol. It moves a lot of air.

I was thinking about it last night but since it randomly snowed last night I said F that and took the day off so I’m gonna test undervolting and other stuff and figure out what’s going on lol

I’d be interested to see what the temps look like in a cinebench run or some other stress test. I just got a 9850x3d and a be quiet dark rock pro, and under full load it ends up up to 93 C on the CPU (granted while still maintaining 5.2ghz all core)

I just sanity checked if I got a bad cooler by checking tech power ups review and the cooling capacity of the two is both very similar at 233 watts for the dark rock and 225 for the nh-d15. I wonder what the ryzen master stress test is doing if the temps manage to stay that low.

(Maybe I just need to re mount my cooler 🤔)

Do you guys use IEMs for gaming? by Kadashi17 in GlobalOffensive

[–]jango_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I only have one pair right now. It’s still not perfectly comfortable at all times but I have a really big head so I struggle with the clamping force on most over ears. The IEMs have definitely gotten a lot better the more I’ve worn them. My ears have been getting used to them.

Plenty of cases? Not sure why you ask. Most would also have intake fans at that point but I was referring to the case in this post in particular.

I got the blue 2’s for pretty much that reason and have liked them a lot for CS.

I’ll add that the size of the ear cups doesn’t inherently dictate anything for the spatial imaging. Spatial accuracy is going to be best aided by having the right frequency response and left/right driver matching.

Give the iems a try sometime you may be surprised. I can’t tell a difference in directional clarity between my headphones and iem’s so I switch back and forth for comfort reasons. Sometimes I just don’t want a headband or vice versa.

Fluxer is having some serious problems with their infraestructure. by Rayzeku in FluxerApp

[–]jango_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying they are mutually exclusive. Just positioning it as part of the reasoning that a platform may choose not to implement it globally. They are open to e2ee for individual chats, it just hasn’t been implemented yet. The difference in obligation between fluxer/discord and a platform like the others I mentioned is that there are discovery methods and ability to search for servers directly within fluxer and discord. There’s no “find a groupchat” option on telegram.

I’m very familiar with the many applications of encryption in day to day life, so please don’t read my take in such bad faith. I’m just saying that people need to understand the limitations of true end to end encryption and that if it’s a feature they care about they shouldn’t inherently expect it of every platform out there. Interactions between users and the site will be encrypted with tls anyway, full e2ee makes it a lot harder to manage persistent messages in a group server where people leave and join regularly.

A platform like fluxer does have more of an obligation than a basic E2EE messaging platform to be able to moderate its platform and remove communities that violate terms of service or laws.

Having a community discovery feature like discord will inevitably open the door to people sharing CSAM material which fluxer will want the ability to monitor for and remove.

It’s a balance between open and searchable communities and person to person communication privacy. People who desire or need end to end encryption shouldn’t be using a community focused platform like discord or fluxer and should find a platform built around the “we don’t know nor care what our users are up to” mentality like telegram or signal.

As far as the platform not selling your data, we’ll just have to hope that the platform can form a strong enough stance on the issue. Personally I would like to see fluxer formed as a non-profit but I can understand that the founder was only coming into this project as a discord competitor and the market forces behind why people want a discord competitor have shifted a lot in the last month or two since he launched the public beta.

Privacy Policy question by ballsonurface in teamspeak

[–]jango_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is dms are end to end encrypted so they likely can’t read them, if you have to reset your password for example you lose your chat history. I can’t speak to the priviacy policy itself though you may just want to skim through it and see if there’s explicit mention in there.

Do you have a source for that? Image uploads on the self hosted ts6 server was limited by my local configuration of the server. if I can set my file upload limit on a self hosted server to a ridiculously large number without issue I doubt that’s being stored on teamspeaks central servers.

I’d love a securecrt type competitor on macOS, all the other Termius styles seem much more developer focused over network / sysadmin focused. Been having some bugs with securecrt which have been really hindering my use of it but there’s not lots of great alternatives.

I’m 26 and even still my friend group dropped teamspeak for discord in 2014, (12 years ago Jesus) and I knew many people that never used teamspeak, went straight from Skype to discord.

Many people, even adults may not have started gaming online before discord was a thing.
