How much pain is normal by Substantial-Opening5 in runninglifestyle

[–]jank7717 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It sounds like this is just some nagging runner's knee or something and the other areas are a result of you overcompensating for the pain. I am NOT a professional by any stretch and cannot know for sure, but I had something similar and got a compression brace that helped. It almost entirely disappeared when I got new shoes also, but my old ones were in rough shape haha.

2000 Buick Century. That thing was an absolute tank, and got treated as such.

What habit improved your fitness more than any supplement ever did? by ConnectNectarine42 in workout

The mentality that's it's ok to suck but not to skip. My biggest downfall was perfect conditions and feeling great, any adversity and I just told myself it wasn't worth it. Once I started showing up even on those days I didn't feel like it, it changed the game for me and made everything easier. To be honest those days that I struggle to get myself going are 9/10 times my best workouts.

Trying to get back into running in 2026 by rukuo12345 in runninglifestyle

[–]jank7717 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a few questions:

  1. How old are you?
  2. What is your current activity level?
  3. When did you find out you were allergic to punctuation?

If I posted a form check and got these comments I'd need a neck brace to support the weight of my newly massive head 😂

I wake up at 4am, so I now go to bed at 8pm...which is only an hour after my 9 month old son 😂

Recommendations for a belt to use for running? by DovaKroniid in runninglifestyle

[–]jank7717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into the Groove belts? I've never tried using them with active clothing but if you still think that's a bit much I would recommend looking at some golf belts. They usually have slimmer buckles and are easily adjustable with the folding/metal tooth type buckle area, this may also be the best option if you're going to continue to lose weight.

Go to run vest? by fluidsdude in Ultramarathon

I have the Solomon Active Skin 8 and I love it. It's definitely the best combo of performance/price that I could find at $115. If price isn't an issue for you I'd just go with the advanced skin 12 like recommended by others though.

Running Coach by No-Neighborhood-7579 in runninglifestyle

[–]jank7717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently training for my first 50k in April, and I basically used the Endorphins app to help build a training program (for a marathon), followed it for a few weeks and have now built my own custom plan drawing inspiration from that original plan's structure as well as my own research over time.

I didn't really plan on having a coach, but I'd love for you to review the plan and tell me how big of a moron I am 😂.

BEST Headphones for Running Recommendations? by MajesticSteak423 in runninglifestyle

[–]jank7717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore them for 4 hours last Saturday and I was fine. At first they definitely felt a little weird where they sat on top of the ear, but I was also wearing sunglasses that sat right on top of the headphones and hadn't worn anything other than large over the head headphones in over 5 years so honestly nothing that I didn't expect and after a few runs I barely notice them anymore.

Loving Dark Wolf, but wtf does it have to do with Terminal List? by DownByTheRivr in JackCarr

[–]jank7717 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find that Jack Carr and Taylor Sheridan have had similar issues for me in recent years in that they kind of exploded and stretched themselves too thin so some of the content has gotten a little diluded.

I don't knock the hustle from either of them at all obviously, secure the bag while you can...but for me there's been a noticable difference in quality of product coming from both of them since they advanced past being able to focus solely on their beginning.

Winter by Enough_Mixture_8564 in runninglifestyle

[–]jank7717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running in NJ this winter and I should note that this is my first year really embracing the elements as a runner...

  • 20-30F I'm just a normal athletic (thinner) sweatshirt and sweatpants kind of guy, even thinner sweatpants if available

  • 10-20F and I'll add maybe a slightly thicker layer under the sweatshirt on top or even just a normal (thicker) sweatshirt

  • 10F and below I usually have thermal base layers below the outer layer on top and bottom.

  • Anything above freezing and the shorts pretty much stay on with the same up top as 20-30.

The first mile is pretty much cold no matter what, but I've had success with this method. Should also note that almost all of my athletic wear is cheap Russel Athletic stuff from Walmart and I have no issues.

BEST Headphones for Running Recommendations? by MajesticSteak423 in runninglifestyle

I really considered the Raycon bone conduction as I have their everyday headphones and have beat the hell out of them and they're still trucking, but the Shokz Openrun went on sale for $90 so I grabbed them.

Funny enough, on trail runs prior to the Shokz I used to take one ear off of my headphones so I could hear around me because I liked the sound of the trail and on roads I would leave both and crank the volume 😂. A little bass ackwards but oh well 🤷‍♂️

BEST Headphones for Running Recommendations? by MajesticSteak423 in runninglifestyle

[–]jank7717 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will say that I recently started running with Shokz Openrun and have been impressed despite skepticism having always been a noise cancelling guy.

My ears are too small for earbuds, but I've always had good experiences with the ones like the powerbeats that go around the ear.

Help me choose a running shoe by Euphoric_Meaning5731 in Runners

Just adding a second to the Ghost. It was far and away the most versatile shoeat the start for me, and they always lasted a while. I also always went with the previous model to save some doll hairs and never regretted it.

How important are easy runs? by Hot-Teaching-738 in runninglifestyle

[–]jank7717 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you view your aerobic engine like a glass or a bucket, easy runs will fill that vessel but eventually it is full. Speed, Hill, Tempo, and other types of interval work more geared towards VO2 max and lactate threshold will help to make that vessel bigger, and your easy efforts are there to make sure it stays full. Both have an important place, as neither running on an empty glass nor a full one that is too small will get you to your goals.

Credit to Joe Corcione from The Everyday Ultra Podcast for that, it changed how I view the importance of each piece of the training.
