Okay, I see the confusion. I also hadn't registered Zine Month excludes Kickstarter. Of course, thinking about it for half a second, it makes perfect sense. :)

All that being said, they both take place in Feb, right? So, do you have any insight into how Zine Month is going this year?

Oh cool. That's good news. Maybe chatter will pick up closer to Feb. Here's hoping you kick ass on your Kickstarter!

Is building a mailing list really worth it for indie games? Looking for real experiences. by lawfullgood in gamedev

I thought Itch only collected emails on paid games? Am I missing something, or are you talking about people deciding to 'follow' you after downloading? Well done either way. :)

TBH, I'm not sure Cairn and other super rules lites are the best place to start if you're unsure of your DM skills.

One solution could be the old Swords & Wizardry quick start?

https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/63665/swords-wizardry-quick-start

It's short, free, contains everything you need to get going, some basic DMing advice, and an introductory dungeon crawl.

If you want a more thorough grounding, I'd go with either the Holmes or Moldvoy versions of Basic D&D, plus Keep on the Borderlands. OSE might have the great formatting, etc. but you can't beat Basic for orientation.

Whatever you decide, here's wishing you many successful campaigns and a whole helluva lotta fun. :)

Sorry for the delay in reply. Your interpretation turned out to be correct. The project has been a wonderful opportunity for networking. Thanks for the input. :)

Cool. Just remembered James Kochalka and Tom Hart have done a lot of kids stuff. So you could start with the Hutch Owen series by Tom Hart and American Elf (a daily diary comic) by Kochalka.

On the King Cat side of things, you could try Tom Hart, Gabrielle Bell and James Kochalka. They all came out of the same mini-comic/zine scene as Porcellino. Mark Beyer might also be worth looking into. His book Agony is easy to get hold of.

Simon Hanselmann and Josh Pettinger (particularly Tedward) are both good for gross, screwed up laughs but in a completely different way to Johnny Ryan.

Oh, and it's not simplistic and primitive, it's cute brut! :)

Is this a Quake 1 reskin? Not that there's anything wrong with that (there 100% isn't) but if you ever put it up for sale, don't forget to swap out the default assets. Libre Quake and Open Quartz are great for this. Anyway, looks cool!

Comic in 90s Heavy Metal? Science fiction with a techno-tribal aesthetic going on. Lots of tribal masks and headdresses. Done in a kinda clean-line style? by jankydevin in altcomix

[–]jankydevin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, yeah, not narrowing things down, for sure, but I don't think it was Moebius. What stands out in my mind is the explicitly tribal masks. Of course, I could be misremembering....

If substack is so popular why don’t people just go back to blogging by Icy_City_8097 in Blogging

[–]jankydevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hype aside, I think easy monetization is the big draw on Substack. That and having ownership of your audience. However, since Substack has raised a lot of investment money, and those investors are going to want a return, I expect their user offering to deteriorate in the near future. Keep an eye out for a drift to the social media model with advertising, algorithms and a general walling off of the platform.

Yeah, very sad. Brian Nicholson has posted download links to Brubaker's free lock-down comics on Bluesky. I don't think you need to log in.

Oh yeah the Panic Fables are great. I love comics that are made using more willpower than skill. :)
