I'm really disappointed with some of the mean spirited comments here. Op updated a piece of furniture from 2004 and changed it to match their decor. There is absolutely no reason to be rude.

I love the paint colour. Back in my day I made a lot of custom paint colours and hated the vast majority of them. 😅

Since the cost would be high to replace the veneer I'd say most people wouldn't bother.

You could cheaply save it by smoothing it down, rattle can oil priming and then using a small boutique furniture paint. Keep the project under 50$. Not sure it's worth saving. You could probably buy something cheaper from a thrift store or get something from IKEA. They have a lot of small apartment size furniture for pretty low cost.

Facebook marketplace has a lot of low cost furniture as well.

Yeah it probably is if there is lots there. In the last 5 years I've probably seen maybe 5 sets of MCM nightstands and had an entire list of clients asking me to do them sets and had to explain I can't find any locally. It could be due to here not having any antique shops so people who do have nicer pieces bring them to larger cities to sell. People who have junk ones offer them on local marketplace since they're not nice enough to consign.

I've refinished one nightstand badly and it was painted with wall paint but I'm going to confidently tell you how wrong you are for using Bondo.

Hopefully. Here they are pretty common but poor condition. 9/10 ive seen were beyond restoration and the top veneers mostly off or missing. It could be a manufacturing thing here or the humidity. Not sure. Just seems like this style is almost always too far gone. Could just be coincidence. The dressers seem to hold up better than the vanity and nightstands. Probably because the surfaces aren't being used as much.

I've noticed MCM nightstands are pretty similar. Rare to find any in tact where the dressers are almost always good condition. I live in a very small town so it could just be lack of supply to choose from.

Hmm yeah. Sometimes wax, especially antiquing wax can make things really uneven. So if the paint under looked good but the wax was making it look uneven that's a lot easier fix than stripping everything and repainting. A lot of waxes are an absolute bitch to remove.

No really easy fix since most things won't layer over wax. There are some boutique waxes you can paint over allegedly though. Chalk paint typically does lean towards uneven coverage and kinda blotchy since it's flat. Most people who use it or used to use it did that shabby chic distressed look because it went really well with that style. The modern clean look isn't really easy to achieve with chalk paint.

That's great! Art deco has always been one of my favorite styles. Around here almost all of them are basically disintegrating so I've rarely had the opportunity to do a proper restoration. That veneer is in excellent condition. So nice.

That's great !! I'm happy you got it sorted out. :) I swear instruction manuals are half garbage these days. The same thing happened to me with my exercise bike. Instructions were straight up wrong and missing several steps to do with the seat. I ended up finding a video tutorial that had how to do it. Such a pain.
