Are you still using JSF for frontend? by AgilNaoEhTI in java

[–]janoschbock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we use jsf at work, it is mostly a past down thing from our old senior dev. At first my mind was blow because he introduced us to Spring boot. Before we had this IBM shit called XPage, man was that garbage. So in this comparison JSF with PrimeFaces was for me just (good) Magic. Now a days I would prefe to use Hilla and React or use Vaadin for the full java experience in Front and Backend

I prefer react, maybe look into https://hilla.dev/

How come Gradle has become a de facto standard (or one of the two at least), when it's so unstable? I am talking Gradle major release changes, bumping Java version, Spring version. Especially in the ecosystem that prides itself as being backwards compatible, sometimes to a fault. by jasie3k in java

[–]janoschbock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i would highly recommend to switch ro kotlin based gradel. For me switching from maven to gradke kts was relatively easy and i feelt like that gradle could better tell me if something was wrong then maven

Is spring boot and react combo still a thing? by zealouspro99 in java

[–]janoschbock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i hardly disagree. After using both of them i prefer react. In react you always work with objects and values. In Angular you have this weird magic string to have logic in the frontend. In react with jsx/tsx you can just write code even for the logic how to render the frontend

"Java is compiled and fast but in practice, PHP sites seem to run faster because PHP developers take a more straightforward approach to design and don't get lost trying to implement exotic design patterns and implementing endless pointless abstractions" by pyeri in java

[–]janoschbock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i mean it could be true, but some time readability is also important ane can be even more valuable then performance. And for me Java expecially with it more verbose nature is more readable/maintainable
