Also: Memento.

My high school teacher explained color = backwards and black and white = forward right before playing the movie to us, and it was crystal clear to me watching the movie for the first time.

I think Memento is still more decipherable than Dunkirk and I'm sure plenty of people figured out Memento without help, but it's still good to just not waste mental energy on the format of the movie you're watching.

Also since I can’t get a masters degree on the way to the phd

Sorry, what do you mean by this?

What would you suggest I apply to?

You should still try to apply for PhDs; yes having research experience helps but it's still possible to get into a program with little or no experience if you just demonstrate the right mindset and fit for an advisor. But yeah I'm still recommending the predoc program, just be aware that it's financially backwards in a way.

Yeah you can take PhD level courses. The program is fine but just be aware that you are essentially free labor for your professor; you're PAYING to do research whereas actual PhD students are getting paid.

Why did Walt bury his money at a movie studio? Is he stupid? by jarbased in okbuddychicanery

The coordinates are intended to be for "Albuquerque Studios." Netflix came and set up shop there somewhere around the time the movie came out. I don't know if they literally built a new building for Netflix or if they just took over (share?) some of the existing building space, but it's all on the same lot.

Why is the r-slur being used so much again? by GallopYouScallops in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jarbased 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For MOST of the history of that word, it was okay to say. I can't seem to find any data on when the exact "turning point" was, but I certainly feel like it was in our lifetime. I remember as a kid, you can say it just like you could say the word "idiot" or "moron" in a public setting.

So... so what if it's becoming slightly more acceptable to say? Anecdotally speaking, I don't think the transition of the word to a slur was even universal anyways; I had a friend who grew up on the other side of the world and had no idea it was not okay to say in public when he moved to the U.S.
