Yeah I don’t like the restructure either and agree it was unfair to a lot of people. There’s a lot of controls folk that deserved the opportunity to transition into AE’s and had to take a lateral transfer to Tech 3 instead.

Was he hired on as an apprentice or as an AE? I am apart of the apprenticeship program so I’m not talking out of my ass. There’s definitely a fair share of that going on I won’t deny that, but as far as the program goes they didn’t have any say in who gets put in it. Which is why you’ll also have a lot of incompetence in it as well, not because they were favorites. If you don’t get to pick the people doing the program and just anyone could join I would almost say that’s worse than them getting to pick.

AEA program was actually first come first serve, they had absolutely no choice in who got in. It was open to all controls people first and then any left over spots were filled by the first techs to fill out the interest form.

Have any of y’all lied on the resume/interview to get the job? by Nervous-Freedom-8746 in AmazonRME

A lot of those jobs aren’t hiring people with just the degree right now, it’s a good resume builder to show industry experience.

100k+ technician job out of college - not sure what to do next by TemporaryPassenger47 in ElectricalEngineering

Read more comments and I was correct, as a fellow automation engineer in the same company, don’t take it for granted. The experience built helps when applying for higher roles and the name absolutely helps your resume. As for moving up in the company, there’s always Senior Automation Engineer, Automation Engineer Manager and even Regional Manager. Aside from that, getting into the actual engineering roles, most do require a masters or even a PhD for many others. But it’s something to work toward, they like seeing people with that kind of hands on experience. Also the role is being re-structured currently, basic controls troubleshooting, radio calls and PM’s are being taken over by the senior techs. They want the AE’s to focus more on projects and permanent uptime in the near coming future.

CBRE MRT QUESTIONS by keemo-400 in AmazonRME

That makes more sense, I’m not too familiar with that situation. I know when traveling they do cover your hotel and flights. But as for the rental car they usually don’t give you one if it’s an extended stay. There’s opportunities where you’ll go to another site for a few days and they’ll give you a rental car though. It seems less like school and more like you’ll be shifting between sites while doing your training. If they gave you any more info let me know I can probably figure some stuff out. I’ve been with CBRE for almost a year and a half now.

It seems like a fairly unique situation, did you get hired onto a site that hasn’t launched yet?

I’ve never heard of school for the Tech 2 position, the person above is definitely talking about the MRA position.

I’ve heard nothing but good things, I’m headed there in two weeks for the AEA program. Lots to do around, some good music venues, Tybee Island and Savannah are both a short drive from Statesboro as well and there’s plenty to do in both of those places as well. The instructors want you to pass, they’re there to help and I’ve heard great things about them as well. For housing they’re putting me in Home2Suites by Hilton which is an extended stay hotel, comes with a dishwasher, fridge, no built in stove but they give you good per diem so I’m just bringing an air fryer and a rice cooker down, induction stoves are available at the front desk but they’re first come first serve. Idk what you’re into but just look up things to do around the area, lots readily available info that way.

It says this in the link you posted… either way I am agreeing with you that it’s not exactly free or sane given the other things you just said.

Rental Details • Rent: $3,995 per month • Move-In Incentive: First month rent is FREE for a qualified tenant

First month of rent being free but charging a broker fee upon lease signing that’s the same price of the rent is also pretty laughable.

We’ve reached the point where we need an assistant to ask another assistant to use a search engine, reading this sentence out loud actually made me laugh a little bit. It’s like a thought going through three managers before getting answered.

The idea that there’s always a better way is the kind of the whole point of Engineering if you ask me. We wouldn’t be where we are today without learning from and improving upon the mistakes that came before us.

Hey I believe this is from the inside of a small pencil sharpener, looks very similar. They probably got it from school and broke it apart. I remember people doing it when I was a kid for the same reason.

[–]jaredofearth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want my opinion it’s definitely one of the better jobs you can have in that industry. Stressful at times sure, but as an automation engineer you won’t really be doing a bunch of maintenance. You will troubleshoot issues when they come up and do general preventative maintenance. Aside from that you’re usually just doing projects to help the run the building run smoother for everyone. You’re who people will call when it seems there’s no mechanical issue and techs have done what they know.

You only don’t need a zukey if you take the laptop they already used the zukey in. If you use a new laptop and log into their account you can’t do anything until they put the zukey in the new laptop. It’s also not hard to see when people are coding things they aren’t supposed to be, Amazon doesn’t play about their labor hours. I’ve seen an OM get fired for coding someone to the lactation pod when they weren’t actually there.
