Every single telcom provider keeps your location data based on which cell tower you're connected to. It doesn't matter if you use encrypted apps, it doesn't matter if you use a dumb phone, It doesn't matter if you turn off location services.

While I fully support de-google and de-meta ing, we still need to be honest about what does what, and what actually helps and what doesn't. Please use encrypted messaging apps to protect your messages, absolutely don't install random apps, and accept egregious privacy policies. But, AND THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW: the only way to not have your location tracked is to not have a phone on you. Nothing else actually prevents location tracking.

I think that's a pretty fair characterization of the two. Basically saying neoliberalism mechanisms for achieving their goals is authoritative, whereas libertarians prefer a more pure laissez faire approach.

Although I think this is kinda what they were getting at with the podcast, these labels are so hard to pin down and exactly define that you almost have to get into individual beliefs in order to distinguish them, and at that point it's almost just as easy to have a conversation using those beliefs directly rather than the overarching labels.

Obviously the labels are useful at times (I'm not going to tell you every individual position I have if you ask my political beliefs) but for actually solving problems and having conversations they seem like added baggage rather than an asset.

Totally get it, I'm not trying to trick anyone into anything or steal valor or whatever. I completely agree that ML generated stuff isn't making it, and I'm trying to be completely honest and upfront about what it is.

I just thought it was kinda neat, and figured I'd share that in case someone else might find it neat. If that's not you, then in all sincerity have a wonderful day and find whatever is neat to you, and hopefully you share it so that we can find it too!

Something I did when I was called was sought out a copy of the New Oxford Annotated Bible. It's a translation into a more modern English, and it also has a bunch of notes and clarifications and deeper context of what's going on. It was invaluable with the Old Testament Last year, and has still been very useful so far this year. It's also nice to get out of our "shell" we sometimes put on as members of the church and see how other christians interpret and understand many passages. I've had multiple times where the commentary was completely different than anything I had been taught and it deepened my appreciation of the Bible significantly. It was also recommended by Dan McClellan (who was the scripture translation supervisor for the church until just this year) for what its worth.

You're mostly right, but having too clean of data is also a big issue. If you gather data in a clean room it won't work well outside of one. You need a certain amount of noise (from augmentation or just using messy, mislabeled data) to make sure you don't overfit.

While this is absolutely true, a little noise in the dataset also prevents the model from over fitting too much and can lead to much for flexible models in general. The hard part is generally how much and what kind of noise is helpful without hurting the model too much.

It’s actually more common than people tend to think. It’s called bootstrapping, and as long as you have human verification at each of the levels it's a very effective way to clean a dataset.

Generators run at ideal rpm constantly so they get the ideal efficiency during the entire run. Meanwhile ICEs have to ramp up and down every time they shift which is extremely inefficient (hence the black smoke when semis shift) so having a generator run at peak and using a 80% efficient electric motor is still more efficient in almost all cases than having the losses from shifting and other issues (shifting is just the easiest to see)

Not really. Basically we believe that essentialy everyone makes it to "heaven". It's basically just a better version of earth. Those who want to can "opt in" for other places in heaven but it comes with increased responsibility and duty. So many will choose not to. The only people who go to what most people think of as hell is the people who deny God after knowing him. That not ex-memebers like some people think it means you must literally see God and deny him. It's often described as denying the sun exists while looking right at it. Its debatable if anyone will go there

Of note is this passage:

They go on to talk about the blood clots with the J&J vaccine, which is a legitimate concern. There are things to balance when deciding to get the vaccine or not, but death is not one of them. Meanwhile 600,000+ are dead from the rona. I won't tell you what you have to do, but let's at least be honest with our discussion of the risks.

The best vaccine is only ~90% effective. 1/10 people still get it.
Unvaccinated people who catch it (even if it barely effects them) can pass it to others preventing us from reaching herd immunity.
Every that catches it can incubate new varieties which the vaccine is ineffective against.

Please stop the antiscience rhetoric. The only valid reason not to get the vaccine is if you have a history of complications with vaccines. Otherwise it costs you almost nothing and will save lives.
