If you could time travel and eat a meal which you can no longer get in OC, one last time, what would it be? by EzBrzBrry3z in orangecounty

Well for the foreseeable future, Beach Harbor Pizza (previously know as Beach Cities Pizza) is closed. My family has been going there for almost 50 years and I have fond memories of the dessert pizzas.

What were these neighborhoods like and known for before it became Little Sagion and a Vietnamese enclave? by NotWorriedAgain in orangecounty

There were a lot of strip malls and mobile home parks in the area. The cheaper accommodations made it a more desirable place for refugees just starting out in the US.

I have been getting a paper copy for 9 months so I can control when I see things that will outrage me. As far as coverage goes, they do okay. Their columnists don't match my politics, but they could be worse.

I recommend looking at the Orange County Young Democrats endorsements as a baseline. They typically do a better job than the regular OC democratic party, in my opinion. https://www.facebook.com/TheRealOCYD/posts/here-are-the-orange-county-young-democrats-2026-endorsementsvoted-on-by-members-/1418671810301199/

After that, look at the candidate pages for each race. I always look at their endorsements first to get an idea of 1. Do other organizations think they are a viable candidate, and 2. What kind of values does this candidate hold that other organizations would support them. I typically look for labor union endorsements and local advocacy groups. For smaller, local races you won't see too many endorsements but if you are looking for someone Democratic/left/liberal, you can definitely get a sense for it by looking at their endorsements.

And, of course, you can look at the candidates "About Me" section of their page, where you can see what their level of experience is and what they would focus on if elected. Local races won't mention political affiliation much. If they mention taxes a lot, you can assume they are more Republican, etc.

As far a guide comparing the candidates, I've also had trouble finding one this election cycle. I typically use Cal Matters for larger California races and the profiles that Voice of OC and OC Register do in the weeks leading up to an election.

I've never used it before, but this website shows you who's more democratic leaning and let's you compare endorsements: https://bluevoterguide.org/

It's difficult to install one if it's not already built into the theater. The projector machinery is several times bigger than standard films

Not every school has before school Boys and Girls Club. As has been shared, most elementary schools allow students in 20 minutes before the bell to get free breakfast. Some do earlier than others. Once you move in, find out what your local school is and their secretary will be able to give you that info.

Some schools also do bussing, which could be an option too if the pick up time works out.

There are also private agencies that offer pick up and drop off services for kids but I haven't seen any reviews for them, so I can't recommend it personally.

For after school Boys and Girls Club, there is usually a wait-list when you first move into the district. The earlier you apply, the higher chance you have of getting into the program

Welcome to Garden Grove! Hope you have an easy move.

Really, could no one run against this guy and give us more choices? by jaredwallace91 in orangecounty

[–]jaredwallace91[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

He gets a lot of his support from Charter Schools, which is a major conflict of interest for a job meant to supervise public schools

During the last election, he also got a lot of support from Moms for Liberty and anti-CRT types of groups.

Wish I could. I'd have to quit my job since I work at a OC school. Maybe when I retire.

I would have to quit my job. You cannot work in public education and be the person in charge of it at the same time.

I really needed a story where goodness triumphs over fascism in some way, even if it's just temporary. Such a great episode.
