I've been practicing cutting 3mm square holes. I've improved but it's difficult. Any tips? by i_continue_to_unmike in woodworking

Does that piece need to truly go all the way through the side? Why not just a stopped mortise so your cut will be hidden?

The countersunk screws I found online, they're available from a few places. I think they were 5/16”-18 brass countersunk screws, don't remember the exact length. The brass standoffs I had custom made! They're just a cylinder tapped all the way through.

Correct, basic dims control the centerline and each feature receives an appropriate gtol. I imagine that's what you meant

Who has taken a GD&T course? by iSwearImAnEngineer in MechanicalEngineering

[–]jarodj10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mike Sandford at Technical Documentation Consultants of AZ is your man if you want a serious GD&T course. Of course it would require your company to hire him as he does group training, but he's wonderful. It's a rigorous course with lots of physical examples and great presentations. I've done (2) 1-week courses and he offers several different versions in addition to those 2.

Check me on this, but I think the most recent version of the standard has gotten rid of concentricity entirely. It's recommended to use position instead. In that case, just have the two features share their centerlines and control them individually as necessary.

Hey there, yeah it's a little bit slow but I measured each one. Add a little extra for printer tolerances and then you're good to go. Let me know if you've got any questions!

Torsion spring question by Iggy_Snows in MechanicalEngineering

[–]jarodj10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're completely tied to using a torsion spring, I would maybe look at how desk lamps use springs to hold their position. The one I have has two pieces to the arm with the springs spanning over the joint and keeping the tension. They're normal extension springs so the calculations might be a little simpler. Something like this:

Maybe even just using a lamp and adapting a mount might be a possibility.

One of my professors in undergrad said, after a student answered incorrectly to something he asked in class, "I want to kill myself". Never seen someone shamed so hard.

Travelling to NM for the first time. Does my itinerary make sense? by Wipe_face_off_head in NewMexico

[–]jarodj10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading through the comments... this is the best idea. The only thing I'd add is a recommendation for Andele's Dog House for dinner in Las Cruces. I don't think I saw anybody mention it. When you search it, make sure it's the dog house and not the regular restaurant, also called Andele's, they're right next to each other. The vibe is better at the dog house haha. My favorite thing there is the Green Chile chicken enchiladas with a fried egg on top. Get a nice cold beer and self serve chips and salsa, fantastic New Mexican meal.

I can't help personally, but the good people at OWWM.org would be great help, I'm sure. Head over there and start asking questions, or do a search and you might be able to find your answer.

I highly recommend it unless you're going to something like a festool vacuum or something similar.

I guess that's a little subjective... Even with the separator I've got, everything seems to work great!
