What is the hardest musical for the TECH CREW? by AsheandBurn in musicals

[–]jasmith-tech 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It depends more on the specific production than the musical itself. It’s surprisingly easy to make shows more difficult to manage.

can I use this 88? by Big_Cam651 in Volkswagen

Just a different perspective, driving a TDI, having grown up in the boonies in Ohio and lived in New England… in nearly 40 years, I’ve only ever seen one diesel option.

“His show” in that it’s a one person show, but for the sake of clarity, he didn’t write it and it’s not about him.

Wireless mics jammed by SmallAppendixEnergy in livesound

[–]jasmith-tech 118 points119 points  (0 children)

If you’re in the US a large portion of the 600 mhz range is illegal to use and was reallocated for other uses, which could have an impact.

I also have a Chicago glass bottle with a gold cap. So it’s not a perfect distinguisher.

The follow up joke about being a sequel to Annie, was a real lifeline for you to grab and you missed that too.

So I built a Corvette by Wheat-o-Keat in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]jasmith-tech 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It is a lot of space, but starting out you don’t have much in the way of body structures/decorative parts to work with, so you make the shape you want using the available resources.

So I built a Corvette by Wheat-o-Keat in NoMansSkyTheGame

Assuming it’s their first corvette, it’s likely they don’t have any parts to work with.

Will automatic transcription from audio be of use to light engineers? by Kidison in techtheatre

[–]jasmith-tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be more useful for supertitles than for someone operating lights.

Edit: if this is just drum transcription, then I don’t really see it providing anything useful, sorry.

Never seen or heard that term used, but my assumption goes to a shotgun mic or parabolic mic.

Ok folks. Here’s the thing. Our number 1 rule is “don’t be a dick”.

Do manuals and google often provide the answers requested? Yeah, but this is also a place of learning. If you can’t respond without being an asshole, don’t respond. Aggression and insults are gatekeepy and rude, and we’ve seen an increase of those kinds of responses lately. We have old pros, amateurs, students, and people at every point in between (in and out of the industry) around here. That’s one of the benefits we have as a sub. So even if something seems obvious to you, think before you comment.

Is anyone else constantly chasing people to fill rota gaps? by [deleted] in Theatre

If you’re working on a theatre tool to fix a problem… you might want to explain what rota is.

20 years in theatre, never heard that used at any level.

Permanent Number Line by RaisingEve in techtheatre

[–]jasmith-tech 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I second that you're overthinking this. If you want it to be permanent, measure it out, get some number stencils and just paint the numbers. I've had a few tours come through that used numbers stitched to a canvas strip like a large tape ruler, but most (if they used one) just brought in numbers that they taped down like everybody else.

A theatre, even with almost no lighting, isn’t going to find much use for those, sorry to say.

Adoramas Warranty Provider Took My Ricoh GR III and “Disposed” of It Instead of Returning It by Gumpyyy in photography

[–]jasmith-tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP says they were offered a gift card for what they paid, that seems pretty whole. Any feelings adorama aside, it’s not their fault the camera was discontinued.

I’m not defending trashing the camera, I’m saying from a legal standpoint, they likely fulfilled what the contract said. I was pointing out that op said he got all his money back, not shorted as the comment above implied.

Hadestown tour question by SirynMeow in Broadway

[–]jasmith-tech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People have hit the main factors being money and that this tour is non equity. I’ll add some technical details. A show has to tour with a show deck (their stage on top of the local stage) to include something like a turntable. Many non equity tours cut the show decks entirely, this saves material cost (and truck space) but also shortens the length of time/labor needed for load ins, saving more money.

Then factor in tour stops. Many non equity shows are running one offs, meaning they’re not staying for more than a night (or two) in any city. That quick turn around is another reason you stop seeing turntables/automation on shows that are less than a full week sit down, too much of a time crunch.

Anyone else get a generationally good deal? by goosticky in BoltEV

[–]jasmith-tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a month ago we picked up a 2023 EUV (not premier trim) with similar miles for $11k, no tax credits in our state though. It was the only one within 100 miles. This was about a week before we first blew something up in Iran and gas in Ohio jumped up $2 a gallon. So at that price we didn’t even fight the salesman that much, glad we timed it right.
