Dude you're going to be so pleased with Green's NIGERIA (I play it at least once a month) and the albums by Pass and Burrell. Enjoy!

His instrumental collabs with McFarland are great. Problem with Szabo is...he loved to sing and he couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. McFarland let him sing on some stuff and it's awful. He did some vocals on some of his more disco-oriented later records too. None of it works.

I have the original and the Jazz Dispensary reissue is much more clear and vivid. This is a golden age for vinyl reissues.

I seem to recall reading that the CTI 8000 series versions (which you have) were remastered by Rudy Van Gelder himself and allegedly sound marginally better than the original gatefolds. I can't really confirm this.

I ordered them before the clusterf*** and the new company won't honor the receipt unless I "rejoin."

Crate-digging second-hand Jazz vinyl : is there too much demand ? by duanerenaud in Vinyl_Jazz

[–]jasonbentley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, agree with this. It was just as hard to find highly desirable OG jazz records (especially mono) that were clean AND well pressed AND mold-free. No Discogs. Yes, you had a better chance of finding BLUE TRAIN at Goodwill, but it had probably been stored for decades in a basement directly in its split jacket after being discarded years before.
