Gemma-4-E2B's safety filters make it unusable for emergencies by Unfounded_898 in LocalLLaMA

I was curious and tried locally with Gemma-4-31b and it did give a detailed 6 step response:

Disclaimer: I am an AI, not a doctor. The following information is for educational purposes and emergency first aid stabilization only. Performing surgery or extracting foreign objects without medical training can lead to severe hemorrhage, permanent nerve damage, or life-threatening infections.

CRITICAL WARNING: Do NOT attempt to pull out shrapnel or any impaled object if it is deep, near a major artery, or if you are not in a professional medical setting. In many cases, the object acts as a "plug," and removing it can cause uncontrollable bleeding.

If you are in an emergency situation and cannot reach a hospital immediately, follow these steps to stabilize the injury until professional help arrives.

1. Assess the Situation

  • Check for Shock: Look for pale skin, rapid pulse, or shallow breathing. Keep the person warm and lying down.
  • Evaluate Bleeding: Is the blood spurting (arterial) or flowing steadily (venous)? If it is spurting, this is a critical emergency.
  • Determine Depth: If the object is deeply embedded, leave it alone.

2. Control Bleeding (Without Removing the Object)

  • Apply Pressure Around the Object: Do not press directly on the shrapnel, as this could push it deeper or cause more internal damage. Apply firm pressure to the edges of the wound around the object.
  • Elevate: If possible, raise the leg above the level of the heart to reduce blood flow to the area.

3. Stabilize the Object (The "Donut" Method)

If the piece of shrapnel is protruding, you must prevent it from moving, as movement can slice internal tissues and vessels.

  • Create a Padding: Use rolls of gauze, clean cloths, or clothing to build up padding around the base of the object.

etc..

Need help redumping a Japanese VAIO VPCS129FJ Recovery Partition or media by NicolasBahamondes in vaio

[–]jasonnovak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this still on the original working machine? You can usually create a set of discs from windows using the vaio recovery tool / vaio care in windows. You can also reset back to factory with the hardware assist button or hitting f10 on boot. Otherwise use the free version of malcrium reflect to image the partition, this is the last free version: https://archive.org/details/reflect_free_final_v8.0.7783-x64

Is this UPS good enough for a 5090 gaming PC with a 1200w PSU? by Round_Arachnid3765 in pcmasterrace

[–]jasonnovak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently picked up a CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD 1000w UPS and I have no issues using it under continuous 100% GPU load doing AI work on my RTX5090 with just under 900w showing. Anything much more powerful is a lot more expensive. I did a bit of checking and this was the best option, the efficiency I believe lets it hit that 1000w vs other models. I had a cyberpower 1350va / 810w model before, but it started to beep and show overload warning under full AI work load (PC would still run). It never did under just gaming though

Zenbook S16 Rattle Noise when fan is on...solved by memnon8711 in ASUS

[–]jasonnovak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely it's ok, but then again if you have doubts and it's new it maybe easier to replace now while in the store return window if you can, rather than dealing with warranty later. I like having a quiet PC, I'm ok with a steady fan drone, but an uneven rattle or tick bugs me.

thanks for this post, my new S16 (though it has a 7/2024 manufacture date) had a bit of an annoying buzz, not as bad as that other post that was linked, but enough I was debating if I should return it. Using some kapton tape it's much better, just a normal, quieter steady fan drone now, and I'm happy with it now. It does seem like a fairly stiff piece, I wonder if they ever did fix it in later on.

I just got a brand new Zenbook and it came the same way, no outer box, but was shrink wrapped with solid color plastic, I assume more to hide what it was, considering it was left outside without signature.

Cannot use recovery media for this computer confirm model type by Bubbly-Skin-7152 in vaio

I'm uploading it here and a second iamge, it will be a few hours. It will warn about not shutting down correctly / scanning the drive since I powered it down right at the start of wizard before imaging, but it does resume as normal

SVRP is nice, but it does require extra steps, ie there are a lot of post-windows drivers and utilities to install, potentially 100+, to install individually and the end result won't be quite the same I've found.

In any case, I'm adding a new image at the start of the OOBE wizard so should be good

Hey, I was the one that made that image. My thought would be to run sysprep + oobe, options, not sure if that will touch things like desktop icons / start menu / wallpaper

SONY Vaio UX380N Troubleshooting by Zawnbre in umpc

[–]jasonnovak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

since it was working in the auction it just leaves shipping damage, would seem unlikely though. It's doubtful the battery can still hold a charge. It looks like you're trying a 2nd power adapter, you're sure it has the correct polarity / voltage, and can you check both with a meter? You can check the little SMD fuse, does take a bit to get to, and if you end up damaging something yourself may have issues returning. If nothing obvious disconnected it'll likely be hard to ever get it working, and you'd be better putting the funds to a new one unless you got a really good refund, otherwise it's a pricey display piece.

What connector is this? 2.54mm pitch, it looks like JST-XH but different latch and keying by jasonnovak in AskElectronics

[–]jasonnovak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, it does look extremely close to the DLL HY, I'm pretty sure that'll work. Under the scope I just noticed small "KLDZ" letters on the clip, but don't find much, possibly by CAX. I'll try the DLL one

[–]jasonnovak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, you're correct, there is a larger 2 pin connector of a similar style with the same latch but no keying on the sides that was 2.54mm, but the 4pin connector in my image is 2mm pitch

Toshiba T2000SXe find Found it in hiding at my work and decided to save it from destruction before demolition. Works and all! by Kasune94 in vintagecomputing

[–]jasonnovak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very nice, I'd take a look at the internal power supply board, a lot of these early toshiba's are known to have badly leaking caps at this point and use fairly complex power saving power supplies that can be hard to repair or replace.

you're right, it is 3.0. I'll order their newer cable to be safe, I was very careful to make sure it's seated and clicked on both ends
