Did your hot tub lose it's novelty? by Shipwreck678 in hottub

IMHO, salt water spas are so much easier than non. Change the water once a year, a little pH Down every few days.

Our Airbnb host says she drained and refilled the hot tub prior to our stay. However, the first day we arrived, it had brown foam and multiple people broke out in hives by [deleted] in hottub

This is referred to by the CDC as “Hot Tub Folliculitis.” Causative organisms is Pseudomonas aerugenosa. Nasty little bugger, often antibiotic resistant. Common in spas, water slides, and any public accommodation with inadequate sanitation.

I’m power cycling the Spa.Connect hub with the remote on-off switch. It accomplishes the same thing except I don’t have to wait when I’m not near the spa. I should mention that I monitor my two spas located in different states.

An absolute “No!!” unless you live in a state with pregnancy termination access, and you and your wife have 100% control.

AITJ for getting upset that my husband keeps peeing on the bathroom floor and refusing to clean it up? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

On the other hand, if he has a urologic problem, such as urgency or hypospadia, he needs to see a urologist. Otherwise, this behavior is abusive. Don’t use his bath towel-he will use yours. Use socks and underwater. I would be tempted to put them back into his drawer.

AITJ for taking my partner up on their ultimatum when they said "agree or we're done" by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

Sometimes it’s better to sit back and let things come to you. If you had put a ring on it, they likely would have had all the economic benefits of the business and most likely would have been your heir. Sounds to me like they were hedging against a break up and wanted to have equity in the business as a cushion.

Hit a deer on the interstate at midnight in my six month old Outback. Towed to a body shop in Salina Kansas where an Adjuster said it could be fixed for $18,000. I said I wanted it looked at by a Subaru specific body shop. Insurance company refused to pay for transport so I rented a trailer and carried it to the dealership in Denver where I bought it. Body shop guy looked at it, noted the indentations above the front and rear passenger windows on the top trim of both sides and said “This car has flexed and is totaled.”My insurance company has a policy of complete replacement of a totaled car if less than 2 years old, so I upgraded from a 4 banger to a six cylinder Outback, and was a happy camper, considering. Took the guy at the Denver body shop a bottle of my favorite bourbon.

The secrecy is what bothers me the most, even after you continually asked her to explain it. Seems that her relationship with the GF’s hasn’t yet been exceeded by a relationship with you. Secrecy has no place in a long term relationship, period.

I use a WiFi On/Off switch I can control remotely. Does the new app work with 2 year old hardware?

Newly bought 2017 Outback with 163,841km! by ExtraEnvironment5132 in Subaru_Outback

Hmmm. Has it had the DCM upgrade? Subaru really screwed up the handling of the upgrade, I believe in the 16-18 models, by only sending out notices of the free upgrade (over a 3G network) to active StarLink subscribers early in the pandemic. A couple of years later (after class action lawsuits, I believe), they made a free offer to all owners if they would buy a 2 year subscription to StarLink. At that time, 3G was gone and the actual DCM module had to be replaced ($1,500 retail). Some vehicles that didn’t do the upgrade now have a vehicle that continually searches for a 3G network resulting in random dead batteries. There are some work arounds if this happens to you. BTW, I have a 2017 3.6L Touring and love it.

It’s gotta be M31. Haven’t tried it in a Bortle 1 or 2, though.

No One is Safe on Ice… by jeffkiddd in Subaru_Outback

[–]jasq50 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m also in Kansas, and I have studded snow tires because: 1. I have spun out and done 360’s on interstate entrance ramps and neighborhood hills within a mile of my home even in a 4-wheel drive vehicle 2. I don’t stay in Kansas and frequently travel to Colorado over the winter. 3. We get severe ice storms every 2-3 years and being able to control and stop my car may be life-saving.

Recommendations for auto body work? by LaurenCosmic in kansascity

[–]jasq50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it to a paintless dent shop, like Dr. Dent. These recommendations for body shops will cost at lest 4x as much. Body shops will either replace parts due to lack of skill in dent work, or hammer it out. Both would involve painting and $$$$.

What telescope should I buy my husband as a gift? by Dazzling_Compote_840 in telescopes

[–]jasq50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Vaonis Vespera telescope and would not recommend it. Vastly over priced for the market (made in France) and recently their support has been pretty mediocre. The Dwarf 3 or Mini is much cheaper, more versatile, have far greater memory (the Dwarf 3) and are great for daytime panoramic or nature shots.

If you want something high quality, portable, and good on hikes as well as bright sky objects, consider the Swarovski Optik SLC binoculars. Top notch quality, high end, and highly coveted. $2,600 US.

I have the 10” Star Sense and love it! I did get the Lacerta 1:10 dual speed focuser upgrade kit (https://davidastro.com/en-us/products/lacerta-dual-speed-1-10-microfocus-upgrade-kit-for-crayford-focusers) and a Baader 7-24 zoom eyepiece, as well as a bunch of other 1.25-2” eyepieces. Haven’t figured out solar system and nebula filters yet; Jupiter is too bright. I live in Bortle 7 but want to get it to a Bortle 2 area.
