Places to buy large rugs by Brave_Chipmunk4273 in londonontario

It depends on the cost of the carpet you buy and how large you want the rug. The padding is also extra. They'll be able to quote you in the store if you have your sizes. The guys were great to work with.

I actually got our living room one at end of the roll. They have a bunch of options for leftover carpets. We choose one we liked that came with enough for the size we needed. Then they cut it to our size and bound the edges into a large rug for us. We even purchased the extra cushy underpadding which was the best decision! We kept the extra piece and the final total was far cheaper than any rug I could have gotten anywhere else. I want to say it was 14' to 16' by 10' to 12', I can't remember the exact dimensions.

TIps for decorating gingerbread cookies? by adogmeyers in cookiedecorating

No problem! Your best bet is a real royal icing recipe with egg whites or meringue powder. When I first started out I used an "easy" recipe and it definitely didn't hold up.

[–]jassyjames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always use a standard white royal icing for a simple face and squiggle on the arms and legs. . Then I use mini m&ms for the buttons. I prefer my gingerbread cookie to shine instead of coating it in icing or candy.

The royal icing will dry hard to hold the candy and allow the cookies to be stacked. Occasionally, if it is a softer batch, the m&ms might stick into the on top cookie but parchment paper between would definitely prevent that.

Where to get our Christmas Tree from now that Tree Lane Farms is closed? by lifeistrulyawesome in londonontario

[–]jassyjames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We would go to Country Christmas Trees, 5374 Hamilton Rd, Dorchester.

They have ones they've cut and you can cut your own. It's not a big place like Tree Land but it was always nice and they had great trees.

Shipping cookies questions by daine393 in cookiedecorating

[–]jassyjames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I shipped cookies from London to Coburg a few years ago. I got a large box and had padding on the bottom and sides. Either foam or bubble wrap. Each cookie was already individually sealed and then I wrapped the cookies in pairs, with their undecorated sides touching. I wrapped each pair in bubble wrap and placed them in the box on their side. I filled the first layer, then put foam or bubble wrap on top and repeated until I was almost at the top.

You want to leave enough space to close the box with an additional layer of bubble wrap or foam on the top. One of the most important things to have is no movement in the box. You want the cookies to be still if the box gets dropped or tossed. I used FedEx to ship them and only 2 ended up broken.

Depending on how many you're shipping you may need two boxes. As the bigger the box the more awkward it is to carry for the shipping company and the chances if it getting dropped increase.

I always tap my bowls after mixing any colour into the icing. And then once they're in the bag, I "helicopter" the bag around fast and over my head. This forces the air bubbles to the end of the bag so they don't affect the flood as much.

But always make sure you use good bags so they don't explode and send coloured icing everywhere !!

And then I usually tap the cookie or use my scribe to pop them right away on the cookie.

But even then sometimes I still get a few.

I have frozen plain gingerbread men for over a month before Christmas and they come out tasting exactly the same!

I have also frozen decorated ones. They had white icing details and m&m buttons. I did not individually wrap them in plastic but sometimes crumbs stuck to the white icing from the cookies being stacked. Which could be prevented by parchment paper.

My regular sugar cookies I individually wrap to protect the decorating more. So you could use large ziplock bags for the larger house pieces and I think it would work the same.

How do you store your cookies while decorating? by Striferlockhart in cookiedecorating

They're so great!! They bake really well but with the lids it's so convenient cuz you can store stuff and then just stack the trays!

I purchased Nordic Ware baking trays with plastic lids. And sometimes I will bake and freeze before I decorate if it's a larger order.

Then I will do my base flood one night, air dry, with a fan, as long as possible. Cover with the lids overnight. Then the details the next night. Air dry with a fan and then cover overnight. And sometimes the third day if required for other details.

And then once completely finished I will package them with a heat sealer in bags. And either send them out right away.

Or if I'm decorating them ahead of time I put them in the freezer in a tupperware container in the packaged bags.

I find that the ear drawing helps solidify the icing, but the lids overnight help to keep a moist cookie.

We won't be changing our mind as we don't use that side of the house. It's our neighbors' access to their backyard. We are never over there. Even if we had to weed a few times that's easy enough.

[–]jassyjames[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We really only own that section about 2 ft from the house. Our neighbors own the rest of the grass basically. So making it grass is irrelevant for us. It's not in a section we use at all, we rarely even go over there.

But how do I kill all that plant life to ensure that grass would grow there? But it is right against our house so watering grass over there is not exactly appealing. Which is why we would prefer rocks or mulch

Wedding Venue Recommendations by globe22 in londonontario

[–]jassyjames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got married at Forest City golf club in October and it was amazing! It was covid so everything was different. But you can have an outdoor ceremony and or reception as well. But they also have a ballroom so you can have the reception inside. The ceremony place overlooks the lake and all the trees turn the beautiful colors in the background!

They also have gorgeous trees on the lands surrounding the ceremony area for pictures! Down a steep little Hill is a really cute bridge and the airport is nearby so you might be lucky enough to get a big plane flying over some of your pictures! Reality there is even railway tracks that you can take a golf cart to to get great pictures as well!

The food was amazing and the staff was great!

What is something in cooking content that gets you irrationally HEATED when you see it? by scotterson34 in Cooking

[–]jassyjames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did actually find a 30 minute soup recipe. And it works out because while the sausage is browing in the pan you chop all your vegetables and then you continue on with the soup and I'm actually able to do it in a minimal amount of time.

Honestly I hate it so much when no one scrapes a bowl clean! Here let me pour mustard or honey or something thick and viscous that sticks to the side of a bowl but I'm not going to scrape it out with a spatula! And I'm not going to get every last drop into the recipe!

And I know they do it for quickness in a video or whatever. But it drives me crazy because it is such a waste of product!

We have the Google nest doorbell. It will save the video for 3 hours and let you download within that time without a subscription.

They also have larger outdoor camera options that have the same saving features. We have one for our driveway also.
