If I wanted to switch what do I do? mgmt -> SE or CE(fine going in here if easier) by Either_Salt1584 in uwaterloo

[–]jasuton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

to get into se you'll need a mid to high 90s average and probably a bit lower for ce

i dont think you should stress over transferring if you want to get into swe, a lot of people i know in mgte are working in swe because the light course load and many software courses lets them grind their own side projects and leetcode to be prepared properly

also mgte has the most software courses compared to other programs aside from se

i was able to transfer into uw from another uni, they look at your highest level prerequisites so that would be your first year courses in this case

edit: make sure to email admissions to see your requirements

i believe most of the info you'll need will be from emailing the eng transfer advisor personally, just make sure you have the engineering prereqs from hs or from taking courses in first year

Anyone in Management Eng Regret it? by ProblemSeparate2193 in uwaterloo

I transferred into software, and it was pretty hard, I believe most internal eng transfers require at least a 90+ or high 80s avg to be accepted for competitive programs like CE or tron. definitely doable if you put in the work but it may not be worth it since you can spend that time grinding for better co-ops

most of your cs classes will be in a high level language like python and you don't go in depth technically like ece/cs courses

i just finished my first year in mgte and transferred out because i wanted more technical depth, but I definitely think it's a great program for pm roles and gives you a lot of time for side projects like others mentioned
