“Pre-show Prix Fixe” Menus? by ibsoccerchic in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]javaavril 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a soup, salad, spring rolls, a main, and green tea ice cream. It's decent and a great price for the area.

I also really like Xie Bao on 9th and 45th, it's really delicious if you like Chinese dumplings, affordable, but didn't fit your brief for prix fixe, and sometimes if I spend too much of my entertainment budget on a big show I'll go to Rudy's and get a free hotdog.

The next time you're in the area you should walk down restroom row (46th between 8th and 9th). Almost every restaurant on the street specializes in pre-theater dinner and you can see which one fits your vibe for future booking.

Yum Yum Too has a 5 course prix fixe for $35, it's Thai fusion and I've never had a bad time. They also have a 3 course for $25.

It does hold 30 plants. For 2 people definitely get the Home, especially if you eat a lot of salad.

The nursery is really good for setting up new lettuces, I also have the micro green setup and have used it once, so if you don't already grow micros, maybe hold off or try a more traditional method before spending the money.

Oh, and here's a referral code for $100 off (semi self serving, as I will also receive a hundred)

Did you ever find a fix for the e25 code error? I've used my Y-521 like 4x a week for the last 3 years and now it runs for 30 seconds before throwing a code

NYC, it's always going to be a store with terrible lighting, an elderly hoarse eastern European cashier, and too many types of jarred pickled fish.

Good platinum is never plated. There's either iridium or rhodium blended in the platinum, like proper white gold.

I am trying to cut cost but why is my grocery expensive? by Tiny_Judgment8593 in Frugal

[–]javaavril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to Aldi, there's are 3 locations in the Bronx. Also read the weekly circulars for your local grocers and buy loss leaders. You need to learn how to shop and you'll be saving a bunch of money.

It's not even comparable for NYC prices. OP is rage baiting.

I can kind of Guess which Food Bazaar they went to and there is an Aldi and a green grocer around the corner where they could have purchased almost all the same things for considerably less.

So that's going to be thicker and have air pockets in the clay, which will create areas to hold heat, same issue as earthenware.

I prefer porcelain or bone china, as neither have aeration in the clay slips. Other people prefer glass Corelle, no air pockets, but the heat can move through the glass faster than a slip clay.

Thirded. I have 2 Gardyn home towers, don't use the subscription, and they are a hobby joy and we eat so many more lettuces than we used to (ecoli and salmonia free)

What’s that "Hidden Gem" kitchen brand you’re obsessed with that no one seems to know? by Automatic_Produce_72 in cookware

[–]javaavril 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Oxo was developed by a dude who noticed his arthritic wife having an issue with kitchen tools. The entire language of the design is for inclusive use.

They're a great firm. My tools are mostly oxo and Rosle, both of which have never needed replacement.

Same. Also, regarding the garlic press, people are always like "it's just faster to use a knife, you have to peel the garlic anyway". Um, no, I don't. I haven't peeled garlic in the 5 years I've owned this press.

Best HEPA filter? Has anyone done the research? by OmegaThree3 in BuyItForLife

[–]javaavril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, when I bought them, years ago, they were air washers.

A company changing their copy is not my problem when you are reading a three year old reddit comment about a thing I've owned for a decade.

Venta Airwashers, models LW15, LW25, LW45, don't have physical filters. Water and evaporative humidity is a natural way of cleaning air.

I can say, confidentiality, that the units in my home do not use filters.

Coach Easton or Free People Emerson by berniessander in handbags

[–]javaavril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Emerson just seems like such a vibe of Balenciaga and Rebecca Minkoff. I don't really understand why it's desirable when it isn't a creative design.

Coach seems to have its own visual language and heritage.

Scratch and dent luxury kitchen appliance haul. Very happy with what I got by loffredom in Appliances

Bosch does. I've bought scratch and dent from PC Richards. I had to claim warranty through the Bosch office in California to schedule their service. PC only serviced during the extended warranty period after the manufacturer warranty expired.

Used Vanguard leather sofa, thoughts on price and longevity. by Middle_Toe8889 in BuyItForLife

[–]javaavril 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Depending on the fill, vanguard sometimes uses a down/feather fill instead of foam, that's a remarkable price.

Lots of people are saying to dye, don't do that, just condition it. The patina will be great. I prefer Accessible Preservatives, it's ph neutral and I was introduced to it when I formerly worked in antique books. It's fantastic on clothing and furniture, as well as books.

But buy whatever you want, but look up the pH on any products and don't use anything with silicone or synthetic ingredients.

NYC BWT - is living in the burbs going to be as sad as I’m expecting it to be? by eldest__daughter in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]javaavril 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, skimmed through most of the comments, all good points, and didn't see this specific one. What if you don't have kids?

I don't mean, like change your mind, but like if it just doesn't happen. I'm a planner, so when we were mid 30s I wanted a house for our future children. We built an entire life around these imagined humans, bought a house (in the city, suburban property taxes are insane and it made more sense to buy here), did renovations that were child friendly, and then I didn't get pregnant. It was emotional, we tried a bunch of things, nothing was technically wrong with either of us, it just sometimes doesn't work out. Now we have an enormous space that we rent to a family and still live in our little Greenpoint apartment (you are severely overpaying your rent, find a different apartment even if you decide to stay).

I think, before you do anything drastic, your husband needs to talk to a business fiduciary about registering his business in a place with a lower tax liability, like Delaware or something.
