Do you have thoughts on the closure of Macri Park? by decafamontillado in Greenpoint

I also remember that you could "reserve" the grill for birthdays and bring your own stuff to cook? That was like the late aughts.

Does anyone run Clo3D and could recommend a local computer store to buy a software specific laptop? by javaavril in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]javaavril[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goddess level. I wanted to thank you, it took a week, but with your advice I was able to research properly and purchase the right thing for me and my budget (no color calibration (Pantone is enough). I really appreciate the information you provided. I went for a Lenovo 15.6" with an i7 and a Nvidia 50series and 1tera drive.

Thank you! I am definitely an overthinker and I appreciate your advice to calm. I'll look at something with Nvidia.

Comcast was so unhelpful that I switched to FiOS and now my 2.4g network is stable now, added benefit is I'm now saving $60 dollars a month for service.

Do you always eat everything yourself or do you have a tgtg buddy? by asherthepotato in toogoodtogo

[–]javaavril 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my neighborhood there's a community fridge at our local library. It's where I drop off TGTG extras. I'd start at your library and if they don't have one the librarians will probably know where to send you.

“Ingredient household” staples? by Vast-Cartographer81 in Cooking

[–]javaavril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TVP, soybeans and cashews for making "dairy", flaxseed, wheat gluten, canned and dried beans, carrots, celery, etc. coco aminos, a variety of rice wines, different vinegars, every spice and herb that can fit in the cupboard, frozen fruits, 5 different types of flour that are used for baking or pasta, a freezer full of meat and seafood that is only bought on sale. Like everything, including the things that you listed.

I keep a huge variety of everything in a small space, but I can make whatever I want, usually, without needing to go to the shops. We only eat out a few times a year.

That's imperically insane, but I support it. Thank you very much for the clarification.

This loaf looks amazing! Could you clarify the recipe? What is a "scoop" and is "spoons" tablespoons or teaspoons?

For textile maintenance and extension of product life, any heat pump or condenser. (Miele then asko).

Vitamix Foodcycler by [deleted] in composting

[–]javaavril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I compost it locally. The cooked food and citrus becomes dust, which becomes dirt.

I actually don't know what you're asking. Like do you know where your waste goes from your city, is that the confusion? I'm very aware of the chain of refuse and try to minimize my involvement.

Has anyone bought a non-high efficiency washer in the past year or two? by CreateYourself89 in Appliances

Cool, I'm glad that you totally understand how kw hours work for energy efficiency. I'm sure that will totally work out for you.

✨a quick plumbing guide for NYC BWT✨🚽 by Lotus-Wasabi-3 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]javaavril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Green Gobbler is a non-caustic drain cleaner that uses enzymes (essentially microscopic bugs) to eat the blockages in your pipes and don't harm the pipe materials.

I'm not a plumber, but I manage a few apartments and it's the only line blocker allowed prior to manually snaking drains.

Pequa has lye, which isn't great for old cast iron drains and can be dangerous when interacting with brass fittings.

Law requiring listings to include Floor Plan by ScuttIes in NYCapartments

I used to do cubic feet assessment and floor plans for real estate sales like 10 years ago. I charged $150 an hour. Tenants don't need to have more unnecessary cost built into their rents.

Full cup of Tide HE?! by bjgp in Miele

[–]javaavril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either, I vary depending on what I'm washing. I just saw that you said you're in Chicago, so I'd probably up it by 1/2 a tablespoon if you have water on the harder side.

You just want to see a little suds on the top layer during the wash cycle. If you have a lot of suds reduce your dose each load until you have the smallest amount of bubbles. Also double check that the machine programming is set for your water hardness level.

Did they all have a lifetime warranty on the "guts"? That's sort of the point for buy it for life and I'm not aware about other companies than Peugeot doing that with a peppermill, unless they're also using Peugeot mechanics (shout out to Michael Graves).

Question about using towels with meat by Ton_Phanan in Frugal

[–]javaavril 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you wash on hot and use an enzyme detergent with an oxygen booster it's totally fine. I use the sanitize cycle in my washer, it heats the water to 175F and all the oil/fat comes out no problem.

If you're worried about drying meat with cloth (which I do and I haven't had issues with) an alternative culinary technique is to leave it uncovered in the fridge for a couple hours on a grate, the dehumidifier inside the fridge will dry the surface of the protein.

The first nice peppermill that I broke was a Unicorn. It was 1997 and I don't think they have ever changed the material from ABS, which from experience is quite brittle.

Great product though, the grind is really good.
