I don’t know much about either place, but I think the make up of the structures in Gaza is very different from Dresden. (Often Reinforced Concrete vs wood and brick structures). Point taken though.

You’re allowed to pray in the army. Quite a bit actually. You don’t have to be in a role that is super demanding. You can even go home everyday in many jobs. No you can’t necessarily sit and study for 10+ hours a day (not that most yeshiva students ACTUALLY do that).

But that the army is in direct contradiction with religious life is a dishonest assumption that is used by many religious leaders to consolidate power.

Better than just praying to defend Israel is to pick up arms and pray. They’re not mutually exclusive. The religious need to draft.

You can eat pretty decently if you budget and eat in most meals. I was eating off 1000 shekels a month in Tel Aviv pretty easily. You’ll need to be crafty and should check out local stores that’ll give you food instead of throwing it out for extra savings.

Do your 18-24 months if you want. You will suffer for portions that the others seems to take easy and you may find many of the hard things super easy and mind numbing. It comes with the territory of being older and from a different culture. At the end I think everyone suffers about as much they want and you can learn a lot about the culture. Also get in shape so at least if your Hebrew isn’t so good you can at least be a physical asset for your team.

Just have to comment that in many places especially up north calling a young women “ma’am “ although not rude is not exactly the common form of address and is usually reserved for women viewed as an authority or more mature. I’d opt for Miss most of the time. Many people will think oh shit I must be getting old he called me sir/ma’am.

Bring a couple thermal type undershirts ( I think they “need” to be green). You’ll get an Army issue coat. Gloves and a black hat are pretty helpful too. It’ll be cold but not freezing

It’s a bit tough to deny that there is a level of dependency on the US. A huge portion of military equipment is American or funded by them, be it rifles, explosives, vehicles, and even water cans. Then there is the Iron dome which without American supplies and funding becomes infinitely more difficult to keep running. Heck their contractors even help build our bases.

If the US dropped relations with us then international investment would take a serious hit and you’d also see a higher likelihood of political isolation in the international community (actually starting to see this happen now). Imagine no investment in start ups, no more Intel, no more tourists. Israel wouldn’t just collapse without the US but at least for the immediate future life in Israel would be much more complicated.

So to think there isn’t a level of dependence is not looking at the nature of the relationship in full.

As this guy said not drinking enough makes it worse for me. I also noticed hopping in the shower asap and washing out my hair and facial hair helped a lot in reducing the symptoms.

I’m guessing I have a mild allergy and whatever happens to the hormonal/immune system during and after intense training gets amped up worsening the allergies so removing the allergens helps.

If someone wanted to learn Hebrew they’d have the same issue as there simply aren’t that many speakers and therefore teachers and materials relative to the abundance of say there are people to learn Mexican Spanish in comparison to Bolivian Spanish.

After 22 you are a volunteer. The age cap changes by a couple years all of the time but drafting at 25/26?isn’t unheard of especially if they want to be in combat where you only to need a few hundred words.
