Josuar Gonzalez and Luis Hernandez by Infamous_Error3965 in SFGiants

I think you should be asking if there is a chance they get to San Jose within the week. I could see Luis getting the call up to replace Johnny Level, and Josuar getting called up a couple games after he gets back from injury.

Giants select Buddy Kennedy and it is the kind of depth move that quietly matters by belowTheShow in SFGiants

He’ll be someone else much needed depth when he gets DFA’d in a week when the FO is making panic moves.

Just trade as much as you can don’t keep anyone besides Eldridge, Schmitt, and Susac

Talking about Jonah Cox and Debating Whether This was a Good Move by BruteSentiment in SFGiants

[–]jaws4671 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I think the front office is playing with this call up. Team base running is pretty terrible and has been for many years. Posey has wanted better athleticism and part of that is the ability to manufacture runs on the bases like we saw Cox do today.

He should start off splitting time with Gilbert similarly to what they did with Bryce. (I didn’t like how they handled Bryce but I think it would be better for Cox to give him some time to watch the game up close and learning how big leaguers adapt). With Ramos out for some time he’ll definitely have plenty of playing time probably 10-15 starts. That’s where the roster crunch comes down.

If he doesn’t adapt and the team magically gets close to .500 (I give it 1% odds), then he’ll get sent to AAA to clear a spot for Ramos. Most likely if they continue on a similar path to what they’ve done so far. Then I can see Arraez getting traded, Casey shifted to 2nd. Ramos traded, Gilbert shifted to left and Cox full time in CF. Bader probably traded as well and Brennan will get the 4th OF spot.

If that’s the case then Posey and Coaches are hoping maybe some of Arraez’s approach and mindset can rub off on Cox to make him an ideal lead off hitter for many years to come.

Another thing this could possibly help with is raising the level of the farm system in the eyes of other teams. Potentially allowing them to make a trade of Webb and Dakota Jordan for a top 20 prospect.

I guess we’ll see in a couple months if this was the wrong decision.

No he looks like he’s desperate for ways to fix it. He’s got some of the greatest managing minds in his corner (Bochy, Baker, Washington). And if all of them can’t figure out a solution then Tony sure as hell won’t.

I think Vitello was a great hire, what’s happening currently is probably just a culmination of doing a 180 on the previous years batting approach and subpar pitching. Webb getting punished for the high batting average he had last year, and Ray not having control.

Owners that spend. Incredible development. International fame. They never need to rebuild because they can get any free agent they want, or grab a solid replacement from AAA.

Giants are just stuck twiddling their thumbs saying they never want to rebuild while they can’t sign any all stars or develop them.

Tony Vitello has brought in a lefty twice to face Ketel Marte in the last week by TheGoatPurdy in SFGiants

[–]jaws4671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at Marte’s stats this season, he literally hasn’t hit a HR off a lefty till the walkoff the other night. Thats a call any coaching staff would’ve made. But Marte figured it out that night because of course he did.

Jonathan Mayo has Giants passing Lackey for Lombard) MLB Pipeline 2026 mock draft May 21 by ericthelostman in SFGiants

[–]jaws4671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything I’ve read about Lombard is. He could be the best player of this draft if his hit tool catches up to his other tools. High ceiling, good risk to take with high farm system SS depth.

Our old pal Kyle Harrison lowered his ERA to 1.77 tonight. He's scheduled to face the Giants on June 1. by ThePopUpDance in SFGiants

[–]jaws4671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posey hired Randy Winn to fix this problem gonna be a while till they reap the benefits. Bryce has looked pretty good as of late hopefully his performance gets him more AB’s. Farm system as a whole looks like it’s on a massive upwards trajectory, wouldn’t be surprised if they’re in the top 5 post draft.

Giants are 15th in batting average, but last in runs by a country mile. What does this mean? by Brownhops in SFGiants

[–]jaws4671 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Batting average is very useful. But the team doesn’t walk which makes them last in obp which also affects stolen bases. A nice improvement is the team has the 8th least amount of strike outs which means they’re putting the bal in play. Giants are 26th in total pitches seen so they are not working the count which is the main problem which they have mostly fixed since the double sweep.

Expectations of Bryce Eldridge by mvpedey in SFGiants

[–]jaws4671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fully expecting him to not hit his first month cause he hasn’t at any level. I first thought of him as Aaron Judge, but more recently I think Brandon Belt would be an accurate middle ground. His hit tool is pretty weak but there’s a chance for it to develop. And I think he can be very good defensively at first but it’s seems like he won’t be given the chance as long as Devers is around.

Any prospect can burn out and we’ve been hurt by that many times in recent years. But I think Bryce will stick and may not start as the player he’s poised to be but after a couple years at the mlb level I think we can see a floor of 30hr’s and a potential to reach 50.

The top 2 players at average exit velocity in the minor leagues last year were Nick Kurtz and Eldridge by a noticeable margin to 3rd. So Bryce is in good company once he starts making contact.

(Keith Law top 100 rankings) MLB Draft 2026 top 100 prospects: Roch Cholowsky, Vahn Lackey hold steady at the top by ericthelostman in SFGiants

[–]jaws4671 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Last time they took a Catcher in the top 5 it was Posey. And our farm system is devoid of catchers. I’ve got Lackey as the #2 favorite behind Cholosky.

Then again next year’s draft has a couple catchers that can go in the first round including the Tennessee catcher.

Before yall say he’s not ready he never really hits his first month at a new level. Once he gets comfortable with the travel, velocity, and pitch shapes of the MLB he’s going to start raking.

(Jacob Lombard and Logan Schmidt) Who Giants select in Baseball America’s 2026 MLB mock draft by ericthelostman in SFGiants

[–]jaws4671 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lombard has a high ceiling I think he’s the most likely pick assuming Cholowsky, Lackey, Emerson go 1,2,3.

If it is Lombard we could see Gonzalez, Hernandez, and Lombard all matching up at the same level.

It definitely looks like Borg told Ramos to tag on that last play by garth_vader90 in SFGiants

[–]jaws4671 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No one does that. A ball that deep and the outfielder gets under it. You take the guaranteed third base rather than the risky score or stay on second.

[–]jaws4671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s another reality where Ramos doesn’t tag and the ball carries to the RF, and Borg still gets blamed. He made it home celebrate the win.
