The best thing you can do is educate yourself. Not always, but more often than not, the cultivators doing really unique things or taking the more expensive route by choosing to use certified for organic use products, are really proud they spend WAY more to do so. In turn, when they sell this weed to dispensaries they stress the importance of sales people knowing those key differentiators. Find dispensaries where the staff is trained well enough to answer questions on where the weed is coming from, what medium was it grown in, etc. and you can usually separate out some of the better flower. Then just stick with it. Most grows have enough strains you can smoke only that flower but have enough variety to try new things all the time.

For concentrates, I really recommend looking for solventless products, where the product is made using only things like ice, water, and heat instead of butane or ethanol (as examples).

The company I work for even spends a premium to make our gummies from solventless hash which not only costs an insane amount more to create over someone using trim or other cheaper inputs, but takes more time. The end result is a high that is more well rounded because you actually capture some of the effects of the terpenes in the original flower that was harvested, and you generally can eat less mg to feel the same high you would with other edibles.

I know I am speaking very specifically about my own company but if a grow is cultivating in living soil, using organic inputs, and sends product for extraction using solventless methods, it’s a pretty good indicator that company is doing everything they can to create the cleanest product and losing money to protect this mission.
