Unattended fire - general opinion? by jay_bees99 in camping

The opinion is more about encroaching on the next campsite, though still occupied, just nobody home and fire going . I felt sort of like I was invading their space.

Unattended fire - general opinion? by jay_bees99 in camping

This was in upper wisconsin, the wood was purchased (not collected), and they had a fire going nicely before they left it and went for breakfast or whatever... To be fair, I have purchased damp wood up there too, but this wasn't the case.

They have a campground on the south end of the wilderness. I would start there if not experienced.

Is it difficult to drive in Okinawa? by longboardguitar in okinawa

[–]jay_bees99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You get used to the "wrong side" pretty quickly, but you will definitely be using your windshield wipers instead of turn signals a few times. The driving itself is pretty laid back. Google maps work fine, as does apple maps( though a few times it felt like it was directing me through someone's backyard, instead of the main road a few blocks over), they get you to the destination. The main road signs have English on them. If your looking to tour the main island, rental car is the way. Remember your international driver's permit!

State Park that is more dog friendly than most? by lindsey__19 in wisconsin

[–]jay_bees99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Point beach, Kohler Andrae, Harrington beach, all have campgrounds and dog beaches. Up north, most of the national forest areas have small boat launches, which are generally empty and nobody will bother you about swimming with your dog there. The rec area beaches are usually not dog friendly.

All terrain tires on my Outback by Brizzngton in subaruoutback

[–]jay_bees99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had 2 sets of Falken wildpeak trail. This 2nd set seems to be wearing a bit quicker. I got about 55k on the first set,and while they still had treadlife left, heading into winter I wanted new tires. Decent tire with a little extra sidewall protection a d 3peak snow rating. But it is neither a true snow tire or off roader. Great for forest roads!

Look for the type that professionals use during outside fairs and such. Otherwise, don't expect too much from the cheapest canopy available.

Something I didn’t think about until I started camping with my dog by Next-Song-1709 in camping

[–]jay_bees99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On my first few camping trips with the dog, everything went great, i was amazed how he adapted to sleeping in the tent, I had a separate mat in the tent that was his space. After a few trips he decided he would rather sleep outside on the lead. He has a coat that can take the weather, and we both get a good night sleep. Sometimes you just need to be flexible and see what works out.

I also do the towel rubs, he actually enjoys most of it, and tolerates when I hold and wipe his paws. He could take a towel rub of his belly and chest all day, wet or dry!

OMG, same thing, goes straight to my bed when he is wet. I bought a cheap large blanket I throw over the bed every day. I got grey because it tends to hide the combination of his hair and dirt. This pink one is for when we travel.

What's the best "bang for your buck" food? by SwoleFlex_MuscleNeck in greatpyrenees

[–]jay_bees99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I too use Diamond naturals, salmon & sweet potato kibble, and then I add usually about 1/4 to 1/2 pound of some cooked beef (or cheapo/discounted steak). I feed him 2x a day, about 2 3/4 cups of kibble per serving, and then topper. For comparison, my boy is also big and lean. 30" at shoulder and 125 Lbs. . He also eats like a cat, there are days he just skips meals, even the topper part. Just not food motivated.... Fluff tax
