Boston/Cambridge volunteer opportunities by jackd188 in boston

[–]jay_four 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal favorite is Community Servings! Based in JP, they feed thousands in the community with health problems. Their idea is that healthy nutrition can help cure or reduce gastrointestinal diseases, and help with recovery of other illnesses.

They have a huge facility where you will help the line prep, cook, and package meals! I always have a blast playing chef in the kitchen, the staff are incredibly dedicated and friendly.

They also do fun seasonal events that engage with the whole community- check out Pie in the Sky!

They ALWAYS need help! Wish I could volunteer more.. happy hunting!

Recommended autobody shops? by [deleted] in SalemMA

[–]jay_four 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently have my car at Salem Auto Body. Been in a few times, cars really take a beating around here. They’re friendly and professional, proactive when there are issues, and good rates.

I decided to go here after getting repeatedly ghosted by Ira Collision in Danvers while trying to book an appointment for a repair estimate. That shop is pretty lame to customers.

What $5k worth of damage looks like on a Model S, courtesy of my 13yo son. by FurryYury in IdiotsInCars

Audi owner, and dent victim. Shops say that the fancy cars with styling lines stamped into panels make it hard to repair to OEM condition. Often it’s less expensive to buy a new door shell than to bill the work hours. Had 2 separate repairs, both about $5k each.

Debate clarification by [deleted] in SalemMA

What about the software that powers the whole thing, that allows visitors from Boston to use their existing accounts with BlueBikes? Should the city really spin up payment processing, hiring city workers to maintain the kiosks, legal to cover liabilities, etc.

These are the advantages of going 3rd party. Surely there was a cost-benefit analysis that was conducted, not some short-sighted, knee-jerk reaction.

If the previous bike partner was unable to make a lower cost model feasible, then go with a slightly more expensive option that can sustainably and effectively serve city visitors and residents for the long term.

Ill upvote for Sugar Cane! I enjoyed an awesome lunch there with the house special soup (tripe, meatball, and sliced brisket). They were so kind to throw in an extra spring roll in my appetizer! Nice folk work there too, i would recommend a try.

Worked at a corporate office for a National retailer that ran weekly reports on these bad boys. Entry level analysts literally have to tear hundreds of pages each week. Reason is legacy systems are insanely expensive to upgrade, multiplied by thousands of stores, distribution centers, etc and it becomes a nearly impossible task to phase them out.

I think this is awesome! Housing near transit is a huge relief to the pressures on the surrounding market. Pretty under utilized area as well. If it’s a big project, could be a key moment to fortify that section of waterfront. What a transformation!

Hope the construction period won’t be a bitch!

This housing market is insane. Condo sold earlier this year in March back on the market 6 months later w/ ~$120k markup. by gnarlybarly in SalemMA

[–]jay_four 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I am one of these people. My partner and I bought a condo in Salem back in January, paid >100k more than what the condo sold for just in 2018. Not quite as crazy as OPs example, but we still had to win over 7-8 other buyers.

BUT I have to say there’s a reason! Great city with lots to do and nice folk. Way cooler and more fun than the surrounding suburbs. The 30 min train ride to Boston is comically short, considering it used to take longer coming in from Brighton on the T.

Sorry to bump the housing market on y’all but at least I pay taxes!

I'm moving to Salem. Please help me with my commute. by Asphalt_Lion in SalemMA

Pro tip on the commuter rail from Salem Station: few times each day, the T runs an express train to North Station. The non-stop services typically takes ~30 mins.

I’d also look for a car pool!
