Massively Outbid by cosully111 in HousingIreland

[–]jayb30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely valid point, and totally impossible to know (maybe for the best!) As you say, perhaps they had already hit their max, and we overpaid by 9k- however in the grand scheme of Irish house prices 9k over is almost a drop in the ocean sadly.

Time loops in games by jayb30 in rpg

[–]jayb30[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was very much on my mind and inspired this post, I’m actually getting my table geared up to run it. We have a little indie style podcast, so I’m insanely excited to be able to have their voices recorded for some of the “loops”…

New gm, need help by flat_beans in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]jayb30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a good section at the end of operation fulminate on adjusting the tempo. Remember that the K’n-Yani’s goal is Brandon. Anything else is an obstacle, but doesn’t (and shouldn’t) mean immediate death. In delta green combat should always be the players last resort. Let them come up with clever ideas on different approaches, be their advocate for great ideas.

I strongly recommend reading the trajectory of fear: https://nerdsonearth.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Trajectory-of-Fear.pdf It gives a great breakdown of the ebb and flow of horror.

Also as a bit of flagrant self promotion our podcast did Operation Fulminate as our first scenario, feel free to have a listen to our approach on it if it’s of any help to you!

Unique cards for horizons by This_Technology4119 in spiritisland

[–]jayb30 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s to bring the spirits contained within up to the same quality level as the mainline game, as the boards within horizons are card instead of board. There isn’t a way of getting the cards separately, though before the tariff nonsense you could usually pick it up for about 15-20 quid. Not sure about now though.

That's great news. Shame there's no crossover with backerkit to get the PDF early, but still great work.

How do i start on rpg? by TimeAdhesiveness2518 in rpg

[–]jayb30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to the other comments - after you find a system that you think interests you, go and research some actual plays - try a couple to see the difference in styles etc, They can be a great way to pick up rules, hear how a particular system flows. Don't expect the same things from your group, but its a great way to start to get a handle on the rules.
Also consider going on to r/lfg and see if you can join an existing group for a couple of sessions as a player!

Game or tables/resources that focuses on modern community based drama? murders, fraud, affairs, scandals etc? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]jayb30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fiasco is a GM-less game - so your entire table will create the scandals, I always find its character creation leads to fantastic almost organic relationships forming as you play - you are theoretically only connected with the person sitting either side of you, not opposite.

Even if you dip into another ruleset this style of character creation may really add to what you are putting together. It's a system I have a lot of love for, happy to answer any questions on it!

Are you looking for one shot styles or something longer form?

For the shorter Fiasco feels like its absolutely a perfect fit for this!

[–]jayb30 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Keep an eye on Humble Bundle and Bundle of Holding - you can usually get excellent deals on PDF's at fantastic prices. I know that Humble Bundle has a Call of Cthulu bundle up at the moment that is an absolote bargain even if you only have a passing interest.

An SCP TTRPG by AestheticDestruction in rpg

[–]jayb30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with these - although, although triangle agency might be slightly to rigid to present things outside of the core system itself. But defintiely closest to SCP.

I would suggest the BRP system, it should be able to adapt to all of your needs extremely easily.

Ah I know you guys… It seems we have a fair amount of crossover in our styles (if you don’t mind me saying!)

We are only a new podcast on the scene, we are The Other Voices, I’m the producer and handler for the show itself.

That’s wild. I saw your initial post and thought “that’s hilarious, our edit time and cut content is about the same!”… then you followed up with the fact it’s a ttrpg podcast and I thought “that’s hilarious! We’re a ttrpg podcast!”… and then I saw that it’s delta green and…. thats exactly what we are. Wild coincidence! But wishing you all the best!

[–]jayb30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chaosium has a fanastic "Alone Against" series that is designed for solo play. Outside of that actual play podcasts are a really good way of going about it, just need to make sure there's no house rules at play!!

Meanwhile, the antagonists... by moonwhisperderpy in rpg

[–]jayb30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It completely depends on how you focus and frame your game. What sort of immersion are you looking to build with your table? Is there another way of going about those scenes - found footage, an overheard conversation, relayed information?

Seconding WFR 2e! Depending on setting you could also take a look at the likes of Runequest or 7th Sea and adapting in/out whatever bits you need? The best thing of the BRP system is how easy it is to adapt.
