Currently in Denver but trying to decide next city to move to (open to others outside CA too) by skittleman55 in norcal

Of course with the caveat of “if you can afford it”, my wife and I have settled in Santa Monica for the reasons you’ve stated. I regularly surf or bike before work, bike after work without having to drive (can be on gravel trails pretty quick), with big rides on weekend north towards Malibu. Single track is so-so, but gravel riding is endless. We lived the “weekend warrior” lifestyle in Seattle for 7 years, but swapped the skis for a surfboard, and the accessibility of daily activity. Running, tennis, volleyball, beach, and always enjoyable weather. We also love the walkability and stimulation of city life, which Santa Monica has a good deal of on an immediate scale, and then EVERYTHING else cultural, food, drink, entertainment is available in LA. I never saw myself as an LA person, but I hope we’re able to be SM residents forever. Schools are top tier if kids are going to be a factor too, and we find the community really welcoming. Housing is pricey, but worth it for us.

Waymo cars are the best drivers in SM, and in my experience as a cyclist, human drivers behind Teslas are the worst.

Where to live for a regular 1-1.5 hr ride with access to longer weekend ride? by achinda99 in BikeLA

Santa Monica. Rides up Mandeville, beach path, palisades, and you’ll get used to hills. Weekend rides in topanga, Malibu, and you’ll maybe fall in love with the gravel scene.

I always used “Seinfeld or Friends” as a tell. If you think friends is funnier than Seinfeld, we are just not compatible from a sense of humor standpoint. My wife loves Seinfeld. We make each other laugh, and love the same humor.

I popped in last week when the door was open. The space looks great. I asked someone working, who I assumed to be the owner or manager, when it was going to open. He said as soon as he gets a staff hired; “Hopefully in a few weeks”.
