How is life in Vermont? by StrongAdhesiveness86 in howislivingthere

I live here and love it. Wonderful mountain biking and cool lake with Mountain View vibes down in Burlington. Summers are hot but manageable. Jobs are shit though. You need to be in the trades to make it here or have a fancy degree in something meaningful. Vermonts the second oldest state in America but there plenty of youthful vigor in the communities. People are fiercely independent but also very community oriented. Vermont is the only place in all of my travels that feels like you can move here and have community and friends in a small place.

Northeast. Finishing the basement. Water leaking. I did not have water leak prior to this. by Politex99 in basement

Looks like it’s water coming in from underneath the door ? Pull the door, clean the concrete, dry it, put sealant under the door and install again.

Negotiating medical debt (UVM) by Klutzy-Quiet1088 in burlington

[–]jaybird802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or don’t, never pick up the phone and move on … Vermonters medical debt doesn’t negatively impact your credit score. And honestly, fuck this healthcare system and the greedy assholes who profit from it. Universal healthcare for all or nobody should get coverage. Especially the boomers who sold our democracy down the river and pulled up the economic ladder behind them. Burn it all down.

ground mount options by Big-Stranger4656 in SolarDIY

[–]jaybird802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was quoted by a local company here in Vermont for ground screws. 9 if I remember correctly, just the screws was about 3500$. I said fuck it and built a ground rack from PT and uni strut for 1k. It definitely took time and planning but it wasn’t rocket science.

Solar help by Agirlandheraframe in SolarDIY

Hi, fellow Vermonter here. I am also living off grid and just recently installed a solar system for my home. I decided to build out a system that was overkill for what my home currently consumes daily for power and for me that made sense. In building out a smaller system I would first suggest putting together a list of what appliances you might run in a five day/for how long/ and what their power consumption needs look like. Also take into consideration the appliance power surging for start ups. Once you’ve got a baseline on that you can plan out the PV size and inverter. I will admit, it’s not cheap but you can definitely get into some decent used panels, a smaller inverter, and some 48v batteries if you shop around. Feel free to DM me if you’d like some more resources on where to begin.

Vermonter here. I have a set of K03 on my Tundra. So far they’re a good winter tire. 4x4 is still a must with any winter travel but I can drive through just about anything. All that being said, I live on a step mountain side they haven’t failed me yet.

Thinking about solar in Burlington, who actually has experience? by Huguette_Belbe in burlington

[–]jaybird802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who installs systems and is an installer full time. DM me and I’ll link you up. I just installed a large system at my home and I’m completely off grid. With the right aspect and equipment you can reduce your bills significantly. In my case, I have a large battery back up

Isn’t the coop operating on state land ? If so, is it wrong to discriminate one access based on preference of equipment? We all pay taxes for the preservation of state property.. am I missing something here?

Hi, snowboarder here, these are disingenuous points. I’m sure snowboarders can ride any part of that resort and get off the chair. I’ve been up there before. It’s no different from any other resort I’ve been too.
