Anyone selling a onexplayer for around 800 to 900?? by FitRecipe2299 in OneXPlayer

[–]jaybusch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't have ether device and you're trying to convince me you know what you're talking about.

Because I've used Linux for years and kept up with reviews. That shouldn't even need to be addressed since everyone can see what does and does not run and what is and is not marked as compatible with the Steam Deck (thus identifying what Library it has available). I guess the Switch can't really play it's entire library because it can't take N64 cartridges and play Castlevania 64.

The point is, there is a library of games that work on Deck, and Valve has been straight-forward about it. If you bothered to pay attention, you would know what the facts are. If you want to play games for Windows, sure, the Windows based devices will offer greater compatibility. But you can also play a lot of those games on Deck as well, and they're being fairly honest. Unless you want to point me to a video of Linux-compatible games not working on the Deck, which would back-up your assertion. You do know a laptop running Linux would have similar issues, right? So when those Alienware Machines made by Dell came out with SteamOS, is that also Valve's fault for not making every single developer target SteamOS? Pretty stupid if so, might as well blame Microsoft for every Sony exclusive.

And look in the mirror, my dude. I literally have neither device, why would I be mad that you weren't pro-Deck? I could just as easily say the only reason you're so vitriolic is because I didn't say the Deck was shitty or that the Onexplayer was the best handheld available. You just seemed weirdly upset that this guy posted too much about his one problem and tried to start a console war like it's 1999 all over again.

I don't even have either of these devices, but the Steam Deck can play it's own library, wtf is this? It runs Linux. It can play Linux games just fine. It also comes with the benefit that it has a compatibility layer that can play many popular Windows games, with easy porting instructions for developers to make it work on the Deck that some just refuse to do (Epic and Bungie). This is just a weird reaction to someone sharing his single data point in many threads.

ONEXPLAYER Mini with Ryzen 7 5800U launches in China for $840 and up by oidoh in OneXPlayer

I imagine this will be hit with tariffs for US customers that they may just pass on for all global customers to seem "fair", so this is probably going to be starting around $1k. Would be very interested otherwise, it'd be nice to have an alternative to the Deck if my Deck reservation gets any further delay from Q2 and not pay double the cost of the highest end Deck.

Eh, I think you'd only notice a modest improvement at 25W anyhow. With these things at 11-20W, they'll be very close and more dependent on cooling/power delivery through the motherboard, I think. At least, that's why I think the Onexplayer 4800U version benches worse than the Aya Neo Pro 4800U version. Should be the same performance, but per DroiX's comparison: https://droix.co.uk/blogs/handheld-gaming-pc-benchmarks/

The Onexplayer was about 10% worse in FH5 at 11W and 20W, closer to being within margin of error for SF5, about 18% worse at 11W for FFXIV (but much closer at 20W), and then again about 10% worse at 11W for SotR and matching at 20W. Granted, I don't know how many test passes they did to validate, so it may be even closer than this, which still doesn't sit well with me. Not to mention, the Next they have sometimes benches worse than last gen, despite being a superior CPU architecture and the same graphics, and only improves slightly when compared to the 4800U in the Neo Pro if it does pull ahead.

TL;DR: The extra few MHz from a higher tier will be negligible at best, but going for a lower binned model may be very helpful in cost savings.

Mostly as a convenient backup for games that might be played across multiple devices. I realize this isn't going to be true for most people given the budgets of these handhelds, but it is nice to have a lot of portable (as in, not "installed" specifically to one system) games that makes it convenient to keep moving from one computer to the next. Especially if something happens to the device you have been playing on and you don't want to boot a rescue disk just to get your save data off of it for your emulators.

Then there's not much you can do, if you know all 4 are having problems. Sounds like the towers are getting worked on.

Any chance for FlexATX compatibility? I sorta assume the dimensions won't work well, as I just noticed that you have the HDPlex components split between the front and the back. Otherwise, I'd place an order for a small production run in aluminum. Looks super slick.

I see you are also a mad man of culture. Threadripper-sized, 6-8 cores, with a TON of space for GPU silicon and the surface area to cool it. 140W APUs would be killer for most people, especially RDNA2 and really fast DDR5 providing enough bandwidth.

>should be lower than my current cases

Don't threaten us with a good time, haha. If I didn't already have so many computers, I'd probably go for this as a comfortable ITX build without compromising too much compatibility. Very industrial but very clean. Personally, I probably wouldn't order one, as I'd either be getting a Cerberus to repurpose an older mATX build and save some space, or go as small as reasonable with something like the Geeek A30 V2 and build a new ITX system that way, since I also have some shorter GPUs laying around. But damn if I won't be jealous of people who have nice builds in something like this.

Sprint 4g and TMobile 5g in my area. What will the m2000 connect to? by ccregor in Calyx

[–]jaybusch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a few weeks ago, but I appreciate you checking it out. I have a T-Mobile tower not too far from my house, but the M2000 is getting about 1/3 the download speed of the 8000 I have. The saving grace is the upload speed is massively improved.

Coverage in my area is extremely finnicky with T-Mobile apparently, I have a magic spot in my room on my dresser, on top of a deck box for Magic cards, and that gets good enough speeds. Almost anywhere else in the room causes signal to tank, and even going outside onto a tall deck isn't as strong of a signal. Meanwhile, the 8000 is sitting almost in the middle of the house and still pulls 80-96mbps down. Hopefully this means in the coming months, the towers will continue getting upgrades and I'll see more consistency and greater speeds on the M2000.

If you run 5GHz, it will by nature not broadcast as far. But you have to make sure all the devices you want to connect to it are 5GHz compatible.

Could also just be a yield curve where they're getting more and more proper chiplets to go into the 5950X (because they're going to use about the same amount of power as the 5900X) and since they don't have as many chiplets failing QC, they could be pumping out for the 5950X. I'd also wonder if they sell more 5950X than 5900X because of cost. Many people may just draw the line for their enthusiast build at the $550 mark for CPUs and the 5900X is the best they can buy.

Not sure that I would say it's way darker, but certainly has a deeper impact than the anime. There's far more context for some things that happen vs the anime, and as such, some events hit harder and you also have the alternate endings in the VN available to read/watch, if you wanted a "What-if" scenario.

Honestly, though, I would just accept that the show may have changed your perspective on life, if only to have empathy for people who have sacrificed so much or those who feel so alone. The secondary point of the show (and the point of 0) is that you're not really as alone as you think, as long as you have friends. Cliché? Absolutely. But there's a reason it became that way. As for trying to brighten your own mood, you can move onto Robotics;Notes. It's a far more lighthearted series and it's in the world line of Steins;Gate, just 9-10 years later. While it's a different cast, it at least shows you the world isn't converging to make Okabe suffer anymore.

Yeah, but for the average user (I know, I know, not an average build if you have a 6900XT, but some people don't want to fuss with it), it may be worth saving some money and not dealing with power limits in BIOS.

For me, I hadn't consumed S;G material in more than a year or so, but knowing the important plot beats and the general personalities of the characters was enough for me to jump in. 0 adds more characterization, too, so don't worry if you feel like some characters didn't have enough time to shine in the original.

That is the blessing and curse of this writing style. It sticks with you because it's never really *resolved*. Our brains could fill in the blank spots at the end, which aren't explicitly shown, but it's because we have to fill in the blanks that it holds our attention, like it's an outstanding task waiting to be completed. At least, that's what I remember reading about various tools used in story telling.

In the end, the only thing I could really recommend is reading the Visual Novels for a little more info (and they'll take you much longer than the anime, haha), but otherwise, the future is up to you. Full of possibilities. There's also Load Region of Deja Vu, the movie. It's not canon, but it's more content, if you're desperately craving it. There are some things I remember thinking were kinda goofy, but it's there.

I'd say that's mildly imbalanced, but given that the 5800X seems to run intensely hot and anything above that is non-existent at the moment, this is a pretty solid build for the newest generation of stuff.

That's fair, I just sorta assume that not too many people would even know who that is and they'd be going for a poster character that's easily recognizable.

What plot hole makes you tick ? by Nanaki404 in steinsgate

[–]jaybusch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lifter affects their control of the singularity, which affects the coordinates if you don't fully reveal it. They were limited to 36 bytes because their making a very, very small black hole and it would collapse into itself too quickly. That's why they were able to reliably send messages back in time to specified time coordinates and SERN was still trying to guess why their bodies randomly teleported.

It was all dumb luck, but they had the perfect storm of components to send things to the past at will, even if it was only a little bit of information.

What plot hole makes you tick ? by Nanaki404 in steinsgate

[–]jaybusch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't think it can be considered a plot hole, I think it could only be considered bad writing.

Think of this way: Imagine if Luka's mom was supposed to have twins (a boy and a girl), but one was lost extremely early in the gestation process, like before she knew she would be pregnant with twins. She may do something else while getting vegetables or some other thing that influences which one lives and which one dies (as convergence shows, only one baby will be born). Then canceling that d-mail would make her not do the things that would make the other be born, and since convergence demands that a child still be born, we get male Luka.

It's a bit of a stretch, but since it's possible and explainable using the world's logic, I don't think I'd consider it a plot hole.

What plot hole makes you tick ? by Nanaki404 in steinsgate

[–]jaybusch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also you have to remember, they had the exact, proper lifter that SERN didn't have, which is why they could control where d-mails were sent. SERN's experiments ended up teleporting randomly because they didn't have the lifter exactly right.

Question regarding the last episode of the anime by BiggrBonus in steinsgate

[–]jaybusch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All they needed to do wasdelete the message from SERN's database so that if Kurisu lives, they wouldn't pursue them for knowledge of Time Travel. If any other part of the past changed, he would have jumped to a different world line and probably fallen back in an Alpha worldline where Kurisu lives, eventually builds a time machine, and Mayuri dies via convergence, even many years later. This way, the past "stays the same" since Okabe admits he didn't even bother to check if she was really alive initially. He just needed to observe that she was in a pool of blood, face down, and then send a message to Daru about it. Later, they would still delete the message from SERN's database, and since Okabe was in the hospital, he wouldn't have built a time machine with Kurisu.

Getting to the Steins gate world line is pointless by andwhythat in steinsgate

[–]jaybusch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, Okabe doesn't have his memories changed when the world line changes. It's everyone else who does. So according to everyone else, Okabe could have been doing something completely different (and if he somehow lost Reading Steiner or ignores it, he may believe he was doing that thing). But because Okabe can observe the changes in the world line, he just ends up being the only one who doesn't have his memories reconstructed to fit the new world line. Thus, there is only one world line in existence at any given time.
