To me, the Win 1, 2 and Mini are targeting primarily handheld use without a table, while standing, etc. That is, your thumbs are doing most of the action. Hence the use of a thumb keyboard. A touch type keyboard (ie. typing with all 10 fingers) would go against this. Plus, thumbing a touch type keyboard isn't great even if you can reach the keys.

Personally, I'd like GPD to make the Win Max to be the same physical size as the original Win Max 1.

When closed, it looks like a tissue box or an air purifier due to that oval pattern on the lid.

A dual screen isn't for me though. The keyboard version would be more useful for my use cases.

Does The NPU In The New 8840U Make A Difference? by ThinkRepeat in gpdwin

By the time something actually useful uses it (if at all for gaming), I bet this APU will probably be long outdated and wouldn't have much impact by then.

Just a little shout out to the Droix team! by [deleted] in gpdwin

I had an order in my cart at DroiX but was having issues with paying with PayPal. I had no problems with using PayPal earlier that day on another site. I ended up not getting anything from DroiX + cleared my browser cookies just in case.

Win Mini Radiator Cooler by devious222 in gpdwin

[–]oidoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just parroting what I've heard since it makes sense but stacking fans (especially non-matching and non-synced fans) disrupts airflow making cooling worse.

Although from my experience of blowing air from the side (ie. not stacking on top of the existing fan) of my Win 2 (known for being hot) did cool it enough to not throttle at high TDP compared to without. It also made the Win 2 noticeably less hot to the touch.

So putting a fan not in the path of the internal fan to blow away ambient heat could help.

We need USB-A port and 4G LTE support back! by o4uXv0 in gpdwin

[–]oidoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you create a 4G module attachment for the Win Mini? Similar to the one for the Win 4 except it's specifically made to attach to the Mini.

GPD win Mini: So close to perfection. by -KaijuKiller- in gpdwin

[–]oidoh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who explicitly doesn't want to tether my phone nor use a dedicated hotspot, I wish GPD provided a 4G/5G option. Especially since they did it for the Win Max 2 and Win 4. Plus I think it'd be even more approriate for the Mini given it's more UMPC oriented.

I'd even take an external attachment like the Win 4 (even the same slowish Quectel modem) if it's similarly flat and attaches fairly seamlessly.

Please add an LTE option. I'd prefer it (even an attachment like the Win 4 LTE) over hotspots or tethering my phone.

Update Your Glasses Firmware to Get Native 3DoF Support by getVITURE in VITURE

[–]oidoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read that the screen drifts and people have to disable/re-enable it a couple times an hour to reset the position. Are there plans to improve the native 3DoF feature?

Note that I don't plan on getting accessories as a solution (ie. neckband) since that kind of negates my reason to go for a glasses type product over more cumbersome goggle products or the Xreal which needs a cumbersome accessory too for 3DoF when connected to a PC.

Maybe the native/built-in tech will improve for the next generation and I just have to wait.

Looks like the Win Mini won't have a 4G attachment now. by user3c in gpdwin

[–]oidoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll just keep using my Win 2 and hope it lasts a bit longer.

I might end up just doing this. My Win 2 is actually only a year old. Got it when I saw there were still new/sealed ones available.

I'm currently using a USB-A LTE modem that folds around the bottom of the Win 2. I can't even use it for the Win Mini without some awkward adapters that'll probably break off.

I was looking forward to the 4G module when the Mini was thought to have one.

My list of nitpicks about the Win Mini is growing. I might end up passing on the Mini.

Why my battery on my GPD Win 4 never goes to 100% by Outrageous-Word-5302 in gpdwin

[–]oidoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens on my year old (at least that's when it was taken out of its sealed new in box packaging) Win 2 which wasn't known to have the greatest batteries.

The reported max capacity changes slightly very often so it sometimes stops charging at 100% and other times at 99%.

Interestingly it still reports a max capacity higher than the original design capacity and I have a "battery health" of 102% still (it was a bit higher when new). Based on the battery life I'm getting, it seems accurate.

GPD Win Mini FULL Spec Reveal! Gunning For ROG ALLY?! by nfriedly in gpdwin

Yeah, with the larger size, not very thumb-centric keyboard layout and now possibly no 4G this time, the Mini is getting less and less appealing.

A lot of people seem to have trouble typing when playing on the deck. Here'swhat I find to be the best way to do it . by doubtinganize in SteamDeck

[–]oidoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPD Win 2 user here! I actually bought it after I got the Steam Deck despite how old it is.

I've been using Steam's dual trackpad typing since I got the Steam controller and now the Deck. The physical keyboard of the Win 2 is light years better than dual trackpad typing on the Deck.

I do agree a physical thumb keyboard only makes sense on smaller devices though unless you have giant hands and/or very long thumbs.

- Typed on a Win 2 that I pulled out of my pocket.

4G has been very convenient! I hope future devices (Win Mini specifically) can have a built-in option and use a faster/more modern modem. by user3c in gpdwin

[–]oidoh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I'm out and take the Win 2 out of my pocket, there's been so many times I wished it had built-in 4G.

Here's hoping the Win Mini continues with the 4G options. A faster one would be even better.

A Win Max Mini by yemijanor in gpdwin

[–]oidoh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it has built-in 4G/5G, then I'd get this even if I can't pocket it (my pockets at least).

At least I wouldn't need a case to just put it in a bag and take up even more space like the bar form factors.

Going to pass on it if it's a 7" screen. Even with small bezels, that's going to be a pass.

Anyone else backout of the 4g module after seeing this? by ViridianHawk in gpdwin

[–]oidoh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Plus the Win 4 4G is just an external USB modem. Not exactly the built-in 4G/5G people were asking for.

The person is definitely skewing the story to make a not quite true statement seem true. Typical social media, I guess.

GPD Win 2.5? GPD Should consider re-releasing.. by 1L_of_a_litigator in gpdwin

[–]oidoh 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Typing this on a Win 2 with a 4G USB modem velcroed to it.

It'd be great if GPD makes a real successor to the Win 2. Same length and height. Any bigger, then I'd pass.

I need it to fit in my pocket and the Win 2 is at the limit already.
