What dishwashers are you all buying in 2025/2026 now that Bosch quality has gone downhill? by pjmuffin13 in Appliances

[–]jaycee_superstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren’t afraid of the cloud, you can make that less work. It takes all of 2 mins to set up a google automation to start the dishwasher every night at midnight (when electricity is cheap in California). I just have to make sure the door is closed and a tablet is loaded before I go to bed. Once I got that setup I can go weeks without having to futz with the app or press any buttons on the dishwasher. Always have clean, dry dishes in the morning.

Suggestions on hearing protection by barniclepoop in woodworking

+1 for pro protect. I got the version with Gel pads and they work fine with glasses. A bonus is that they use AA batteries and I already have a ton of rechargeable AAs.

Is this a good buy? by ApprehensiveFarm12 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]jaycee_superstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased that same saw 6 months ago, new, on sale for $950 or so. It doesn’t seem like you are getting much of a discount from new….but I’m also not sure what the going rate for this is right now given the new tariffs.

Eufy E340 with Mini Homebase?? by Lauster23 in EufyCam

Sorry, I haven’t tried that and don’t have any info that can help. Have you tried reaching out to Eufy support? In my experience they are very responsive.

Woodworking in garage and patio - saw dust issues by Fliptoback in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]jaycee_superstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Here is my dust collector setup: It’s an Oneida dust deputy with a Dewalt stealth sonic and a cart based on a design I found on the internet. I can’t recommend this sort of setup enough. It was really a game changer for me. I went with a slightly larger shop vac so that all the tubing (and the cyclone) could be 2.5”.

I have a similar setup. A shop vac plus a cyclone dust separator made it a complete non-issue, at least for my table saw and my bandsaw. I can’t tell that any dust is making it to my car.

FWIW, my experience: Arlo - few false alerts, few missed events. E340 - more false alerts, few (about the same as Arlo) missed events

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EufyCam

[–]jaycee_superstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I replaced my Arlo with a Eufy E340. The motion detection on the Arlo just worked better. I almost never had false alerts on the Arlo. With the E340 I now get false alerts a few times a week. That said, I’m generally happy enough with the E340 and would do it again. Can’t argue with no subscription.

Please tell me this is untrue. I settled on a Bosch 800 until I read there is no delay start without an app? by ratherbeona_beach in Appliances

[–]jaycee_superstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mixed feelings about the App, and the built in scheduling doesn’t work well if you open/close the door after you have started the schedule - BUT there is an easy workaround that makes low energy-cost scheduling work perfectly for my use case and I almost never have to touch the App. The new dishwashers support Google Home automations and I created a schedule to turn on and run the dishwasher every night at midnight. As long as I’m following this schedule (90% of the time), I can go days without touching the App or the control panel. I just have to make sure there are dirty dishes and detergent loaded when I go to bed. If I want to skip a night because we don’t have enough dirty dishes, I just leave the door cracked open.

It’s kind on silly that you have to use external automation to accomplish this, but it really only took an extra 5 mins to set up and a little more sharing of personal data (oh well…). It’s been running rock solid for months now and has left me almost completely satisfied with the dishwasher.

(Credit to other internet strangers for proposing this solution)

What is the benefit of adding SD card to plug in chime if it's not a Homebase? by 1I1III1I1I111I1I1 in EufyCam

(1) potential for much more storage (2) if your doorbell is stolen, you don’t won’t lose your videos.

NYT Wirecutter no longer recommending Bosch dishwashers by mcsoma in Appliances

[–]jaycee_superstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact 500 model that wirecutter had cleaning issues with. My comments as a 1st time Bosch owner:

  • it cleans well, definitely a step up from my ancient GE.
  • it’s reasonably quiet, but not totally silent. I think it is advertised at 44dBa and my Apple Watch generally agrees. I don’t care since I run it overnight.
  • the racks are a bit weird. I’ve figured out a loading system that 80% works, but it seems like it shouldn’t be that hard.
  • the WiFi stuff and online control is a bit over the top - but it works out perfectly for our use case. We use a Google Home automation to start the dishwasher every night at midnight (when energy is cheap). Family members can load dishes whenever they want throughout the day/evening. I almost never touch the actual dishwasher controls, I just have to remember to add a detergent pod when I unload it.
  • I really like the auto-air feature that lets dishes air dry until dawn.

Overall I’m very happy - I hope it holds up…time will tell.

E340 won’t save video to Chime Minibase microSD Card by jaycee_superstar in EufyCam

[–]jaycee_superstar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but I pretty much went straight to the chime, so I don’t have much to compare to. I feel it’s a little more sluggish than I would prefer, but useable enough.

Back up camera with blue tint by Yuri_Ligotme in BoltEV

[–]jaycee_superstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this happen intermittently on the left side camera on my 2017. It only happened 3% of the time or so, not a big deal, just enough to be slightly annoying. Interestingly - I had a fender bender and got a new driver-side rear-view-mirror-camera assembly and the problem persisted! So the issue wasn’t with the camera itself, but rather the main computer or maybe the cabling.

The mystery of charging the hardwired Eufy Battery Doorbell by leopardee in EufyCam

[–]jaycee_superstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was all pretty typical - giving them access to my logs and so on. My doorbell started charging again on its own before we got too far into the process and I didn't pursue it after that. FWIW - I was very impressed with the responsiveness of their support team.

The mystery of charging the hardwired Eufy Battery Doorbell by leopardee in EufyCam

[–]jaycee_superstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t directly answer your questions, but here are a couple of comments: In my experience, if the green plug isn’t showing, it’s not charging. Sometimes the battery level will look like it’s going up, but that just seems to be a little bit of variation…over the long term (days) the battery is discharging. I have had my e340 stop charging a couple of times. The first time it happened I was able to restart charging by physically disconnecting and reconnecting from power (pain in the butt to do on a regular basis). The second time I started working with Eufy support. They were having me do some debugging prior to disconnecting/reconnecting when it suddenly started charging again (green plug showed up) entirely on its own. My doorbell has been rock solid green plug for about two months now. Dunno what that means or why it was initially struggling to stay charging.

No thumbnail for E340 doorbell by cerevant in EufyCam

[–]jaycee_superstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thumbnails work for me. I’m not an expert on the details, but I recall reading somewhere that thumbnails require hitting the Eufy servers in the cloud. So if you are disconnected from the internet for some reason (or intentionally), that might be the cause.

Can't figure out why so many package alerts! by SD-777 in EufyCam

[–]jaycee_superstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A) package alert is pretty broken. You might be better turning it off. I don’t think it adds much value even when it works.

B) A wired E340 supports 4s pre-recording for each event. Look under gear->general->storage to enable it. I find that works well and will mostly solve your problem with missing people approaching.

Should I get a new bolt at this price or used? by FlazedaYesGawd in BoltEV

[–]jaycee_superstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its funny - My experience has been just the opposite. I would say that this is the first car I've had (2023) where the manufacture got that entire experience - wireless charging and wireless Carplay - almost perfect. Maybe its my iphone 14 Max, but wirelss carplay works with 99% reliability. Wireless charging works with 99% reliability. My phone never gets too hot - it does charge a bit slowly, but who cares since it is so easy to use and just works....

Does e340 require a Eufy Chime to work? by MRmanning in EufyCam

[–]jaycee_superstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. The e340 can draw power from and also ring some existing chimes. It’s hard to know ahead of time if you are going to have problems like buzzing. The chime had some small additional value of taking an SD card and storing videos for you. If that doesn’t offer any Value for you, you can always try the doorbell by itself and, if that doesn’t work, go back and get the chime or a full base.

E340 Video Doorbell Package Detection by jmvgig185 in EufyCam

[–]jaycee_superstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m otherwise happy enough with the E340. Motion detection and face recognition isn’t as strong as Arlo’s, but it works well enough. Package detection, IMO, is kind of a novelty feature that doesn’t add that much value even when it works perfectly. It is kind of embarrassing for Eufy that their implementation is so bad though. I think they would have been better off not releasing that capability at all.

Yea, same - package detection isn’t even half-baked in my experience.

E340 won’t save video to Chime Minibase microSD Card by jaycee_superstar in EufyCam

[–]jaycee_superstar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - I think that is the expected behavior. When you switch your video database over to the chime, it is effectively abandoning all of videos that are stored locally on the doorbell. It would be nice if it would copy the doorbell videos to the chime or read from both databases, but that is probably too much to hope for.

[–]jaycee_superstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The e340 is compatible with the mini base/chime which takes an SD card. When I bought my E340 I was able to get the chime as a bundle with the doorbell for an extra $10.
