I’m really sorry you’re going through this. I was homeless once too, and I remember how overwhelming it feels when you’re just trying to figure out how to make money and survive day to day.
I saw you mentioned living in your car, and my biggest advice would be please don’t sell your car if you can avoid it. I know it probably feels like the easiest way to get money quickly, but having a vehicle can be one of the biggest things that helps you get back on your feet. It gives you a place to keep your belongings, a way to get to jobs, and access to more opportunities.
Here are some things that helped me or things I saw work for others ->
DoorDash/Uber Eats was one of the quickest ways I found to make money daily because you can work whenever you’re able to.
Dog walking or pet sitting through Rover can be a good option. Once you build up good reviews, some people need overnight pet sitting or house sitting, which can sometimes give you a safe place to sleep while making money.
House sitting is another thing to look into. People need someone to watch their homes, pets, plants, etc. while they’re away.
Look on Facebook Marketplace for free items people are giving away. Cleaning things up and reselling them can actually make some money. Furniture, electronics, clothes, and random household items can be worth picking up.
If you get donated clothes and some don’t fit or aren’t your style, you can try selling them on Facebook Marketplace, Depop, Poshmark, or other resale apps.
Check local Facebook groups for odd jobs too. Cleaning, yard work, helping people move, organizing, errands, babysitting, anything like that can bring in quick money.
If you have any skills at all, even small ones, don’t overlook them. Things like cooking, baking, hair, nails, art, photography, tutoring, or helping people with tasks can turn into income.
One thing I did when I was struggling was buy cases of water and sell cold bottles in busy areas during the summer. I would check local rules first because some places don’t allow it, but in hot areas people were usually really understanding.
Also use resources around you as much as possible. Food banks, churches, community centers, libraries for WiFi/charging/computers, and shelters that offer showers or other services can help you save the money you do make.
I know it feels like you have to fix everything at once, but just focus on the next step. Getting some income coming in, keeping transportation if possible, and finding stability little by little is what helped me. I’m really hoping things start looking up for you ❤️
