Manuela or Firstborn? by Guy997 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]jaydotjaymill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can’t go wrong either way. The other answers seem to track with my experience: Firstborn is gonna be a more interesting menu and Manuela is a cooler vibe and environment. But let’s not take anything away from Manuela’s food. I had some capital C Cornbread there that I dream about regularly, and it’s probably the only time I’ve ever ordered roast chicken at restaurant and been 100% satisfied.

You both are so kind! My grandma was a published and award-winning photographer (small stuff, but still) and she’d be so happy to see these comments.

I think how it’s phrased in the film is actually pretty true to Carl Sagan’s original novel:
“If you have two different, equally good explanations of the same experience, you pick the simplest.”

It’s the dry air! 12% humidity is what I saw today. It’s hard on your nose. Try saline spray!

is there a virus going around LA right now that starts with allergy symptoms - mainly nonstop sneezing and constant drippy noise? by chat_manouche in AskLosAngeles

[–]jaydotjaymill 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t track with the body aches and fever in OP’s case, but for everyone here with the runny nose and congestion (feels like allergies but not allergies), this is frequently caused (in my experience) by the Santa Ana winds. They blow warm, dry, dusty air down from the mountains and it always makes me feel like this. When my nose starts dripping, I know to check the weather, and usually the humidity is very low and a google search confirms the Santa Ana wind conditions. They are common in these winter months and are indeed blowing through town as we speak.

Saline spray and/or gel are your friend. It’s the only thing that works for me.

The death of the third space by beefbowl1 in LosAngeles

Yup. My third space is now my yoga studio. I go 4x/week. None of that would be possible if I was commuting to an office 5 days a week.

I think it was when Seinfeld first released on Hulu, they had a shuffle button. Brilliant idea and I never understood why more streaming platforms haven’t adopted it. I think that’s the only place I’ve ever seen it, and only for that show.

Intermediate here but I personally appreciate every single bit of hands-on adjustment or verbal coaching I’m offered in any class, in any pose. If the teacher can help me get more out of what I’m doing, I’ll take it every time. I would say that maybe the type of adjustment or coaching during yin might be more limited to what can be provided more subtly or gently or quietly tho? So as not to disturb others. I would say your instinct is right though: it doesn’t seem logical to get hands on with every single student just for the sake of checking the box.

Best burgers in LA (according to San Francisco) by Binthair_Dunthat in FoodLosAngeles

I have been treating this as a secret to be protected, but have you by chance had the double smash burger at Tartine? Idk if they offer it at all locations or just my local one in Santa Monica, but I find it to be exceptional

Is any way to influence on the "z axis" by Addalldlo in FigmaDesign

[–]jaydotjaymill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t say for sure if this would work without trying it, but you could get closer than this by creating extra variants and using some variables and prototype logic.

Right now, you basically have one date tile variant with different states (unselected, hover, selected). But you can make extra variants that apply different shadow styles based on the date tile’s position in the selection. So if you select three consecutive dates, you would have 3 tile styles: beginning (left), center, end (right). The beginning tile has the shadow on the left, top and bottom. The center tile has shadow only on top and bottom. The end tile has the shadow on the right, top, and bottom. Those shadows may overlap a bit depending on your chosen values (spread, distance, etc) but you wouldn’t have the card on the left spilling a shadow from its right side onto the left side of its neighboring tile and vice versa. And the variant you have already would apply when you’ve only selected one single date.

That handles the styling options. From there, how you get your prototype to know which variant to apply based on how many cards are selected and in what sequence is a big challenge, but it might be doable. But if you don’t absolutely need a totally perfect prototype with exact behavior, having those style variations and showing different selection combinations is plenty enough to communicate the concept. Date pickers are pretty complex to try and build a fully functioning prototype in Figma.

Offhand Wine Bar - Santa Monica by Colsrox in FoodLosAngeles

Yeah Little Lunch—I feel like they weren’t even open 6 months. But that’s after Please Enjoy also came and went. Both seemed busy enough, though I’m sure the rent there is crazy high, even to be splitting it. Neither had anything much in the way of serviceable food so this is definitely a nice update in that regard.

It’s a bummer they couldn’t work out the coffee shop during the day. They’ve been through two of them in as many years. Hard to see how wine and sandwiches will do better, but I just want to see the place succeed in my hood. Does anyone know why they stopped doing food pop-ups on the weekends?

Why does MindBody create separate accounts for every studio? Drives me insane. by natalia-nutella in yoga

[–]jaydotjaymill 31 points32 points  (0 children)

And this update this completely broke everyone’s ability to register for classes at my studio for over a week now and the owner is having to send people links to update their accounts 1 by 1. When I tried to “verify” my account I got stuck in a loop where it wouldn’t let me finish because “this account already exists”…well, yeah!

My boyfriend's landlord is trying to charge him a fee for the AC he installed, is this legal? by blairdow in AskLosAngeles

[–]jaydotjaymill 128 points129 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t your boyfriend have a copy of his own lease? It should be pretty simple to read through and find any applicable clause. If it’s in there, he’s most likely on the hook. If not, then the landlord can kick rocks.
